We are entering the sacred space of Pisces.
Pisces is a mystical, magical experience. It entices us with visions of our most cherished dreams. It leads us to the threshold where we must, in some way, take a leap of faith in order realize those dreams.
And yet, there is a fine and rather blurred line between vision and hallucination; between magic and mirage; between faith and fantasy. How do you know what's real and what's not? When heading out into the enchanted forest, how do you know if that yellow brick road will lead to the Emerald City or to the castle of the wicked witch of the West with her flying monkeys?
The truth is you might not know until you get there. There's no way to tell for sure. That Piscean forest is full of twists and turns that might look like they go in a certain direct, but they might double back and suddenly you're going in the opposite direction.
If your path doesn't feel good, or if it causes you distress, does that mean it's the wrong way? Not necessarily. Sometimes the wrong has to be undone before it can be put back together in a better way, and it often gets worse before it gets better. So if it feels lousy, that means you're on the right track, right? Not necessarily. If you're on the wrong track, that can feel lousy too.
Well, if it just "feels" right intuitively, then that will guide you in the right direction, right? Not necessarily. It's not always easy to tell when we're picking up clear intuition and when it's being colored by our desires, expectations, fears, hopes and beliefs.
There's no way to know anything for sure in the realm of Pisces, except that we can't always know anything for sure. What's left is the leap of faith. The thing is, it's easy to become reckless with these kinds of odds. If you simply hold your nose and jump, that's just as likely to get you battered and bruised as you plummet down into the canyon. It's still sensible to think things through and act with some cautious wisdom.
Right now we have 6—count 'em, six!—planets in Pisces. That's more Pisces than there are drops of water in the ocean! The New Moon is in Pisces—the Sun-Moon conjunction. In addition, we have Chiron which recently moved into Pisces. (Read my article on Chiron in Pisces.) There's also Mars in Pisces, and although Mars is relatively comfortable in Water signs, Mars often finds it hard to get much traction in Pisces when it tries to act on something. Mercury is also in Pisces, so there's a very intuitive, imaginative, Right-Brain aura around our thoughts and words. And Uranus is swimming his final lap in Pisces before he climbs out of the pool and sprints into Aries on Mar.11. (Read my article on Uranus in Aries.)
Some people are more at home in this kind of nebulous situation than others. One way to approach it is to let go of any attachment to where you end up. If you wind up at the witch's castle, well you'll deal with it and figure it out as you go.
This is where Pisces and Aries share some common ground – Aries is always up for an adventure, and Pisces can't guarantee what will come next, so it's all good. Jupiter, the traditional planetary ruler of Pisces, is currently in Aries so that means it should be relatively easy to adopt a position of philosophical adventurousness as a way of dealing with all that Pisces energy.
On the other hand, Jupiter is still very closely square to Pluto, so the Aries spontaneity, Jupiter might have some pretty adamant ideas about where it wants that yellow brick road to end up, adventure or not. With Pluto involved, that road just might wind up at the wicked witch's castle after all. A bit of Jupiterian luck, combined with Aries courage and audacity, could give you enough intuitive spark to keep you from getting into too much trouble. It's when you try to control the outcome too much (the square to Pluto) that you're likely to find yourself stuck in the swamp with flying monkeys buzzing around your head.
Saturn is the handle of the chart, once again. This says that even with all that faith and intuition, whatever you do needs to pass the smell test of Saturn's realism and practicality. Jupiter is moving into opposition with Saturn (Mar.28), the last of 3 passes. This emphasizes the importance of tempering Jupiter's headstrong opinions, beliefs and hubris, which can be amplified in Aries, with Saturn's sense of groundedness, fairness and boundaries while it's in Libra. The two have common ground through a sense of justice—Jupiter's sense of right and wrong with Saturn's knowledge of how to create rules to implement it.
Neptune, the other ruler of Pisces, is in the final minutes of Aquarius. It will pour itself into Pisces starting Apr.04. It's very fitting that we are wading through so much Pisces now, just before we encounter the double squishy of Neptune in Pisces. Consider this a trial run. Neptune in Pisces is more likely to be experienced on a collective level for most of us, unless you happen to have natal planets around zero degrees of the Mutable signs, in which case you're about to get a major Neptune transit. In that case, contact me for a personal reading because you're about to go through a couple of years of feeling like you're floating in the middle of the ocean!
However, each one of us is part of that collective, so you will experience Neptune in Pisces in some way, regardless. This New Moon cycle is your chance to observe how you perceive and work with Piscean and Neptunian energy. Do you feel a sense of relief, of being unfettered by demands and worry? Do you feel a sense of creativity and wanting to reach out with your inspiration to touch something beautiful and moving?
Or, perhaps you feel a bit lost, not sure which way you should go? You might feel kind of depressed or just low on energy, as if you're a salmon trying to swim upstream when you'd rather just go with the current and resign yourself to whatever happens. Or you could feel the need to reach out and connect with something greater than yourself and feel the supportive reassurance of the Universe in your life, but you're not sure if it's safe to put your trust in something you can't see.
Whatever your experience, it is a chance to learn something about yourself and how you relate to that sense of "something greater than yourself." Collectively we're about to embark on a 14-year journey through that Piscean realm, as Neptune drifts through that sign. This "trial run" with 6 planets in Pisces is showing you what you stand to learn from that journey.
Communication and thoughts can be radical, spontaneous, unusual and uncharacteristic under this transit. You may be compelled to speak your mind to say things you've held back from saying before now. However, as the saying goes, there is a risk of "shooting off your mouth before your brains are loaded." It is a time when you are likely to be open-minded and flexible in your perceptions. Our eyes are wide open, and as a result, we may be a bit shocked, surprised or stunned by what we see. This can also release our creative genius and bring inspired clarity, especially as we look to the future. Encounters with groups, friends and the greater community are also possible at this time.
Directness of speech, fast perceptions and an attitude of "just do it" mark this transit. While Mercury sprints through Aries, you may feel the impulse to cut through and get to the point in conversations and other forms of communication. Body language speaks loudly now, as do actions. At its best, this transit can help words, awareness and insight to arise spontaneously, combined with the courage to express them. On the other hand, you could also say things out of anger, impatience or impulse that you later regret. It may be a time when you'd rather cut to the chase – acknowledge things and move on – rather than hang around to process the details. It's a great time to spin ideas that can be developed later. It is also a good time to think independently and follow your thoughts into new perspectives.
Mercury stays in Aries an unusually long time because it will go retrograde there in April.
There is an abundance of creative inspiration, material enjoyment, feel-good pleasure in the air! Your luck and opportunity to attract money, love, resources and self-esteem are high right now. It may be relatively easy to attract the people, possessions and opportunities you want or need, but you'll still have to work to get them. On the other hand, your eyes may be bigger than your stomach (as mother would say) and you might be tempted to charm, flirt or bluff your way through a situation more than usual. There may also be a tendency to self-indulgence. These are not necessarily bad things, but it's probably wise to remember to use this energy to enhance your best judgement, not override it.
Uranus, the Great Awakener, leaps into Aries, the sign of new beginnings. It's a good guess that things could get pretty lively! As the planet of chaos and change goes firewalking through the Fire sign of energy, heat, courage and brimstone, things might get a little explosive! There are now TWO new articles: The Personal Side of Uranus in Aries : Playing With Fire, and The Transpersonal Side of Uranus in Aries : The Chaos of Being Born.
If you live in Canada or the US, it could be time to turn your clocks one hour forward. If you're not sure whether your area observes DST, you can check here to see when and if your location changes to DST.
You are faced now with a challenge to empower your communication and perceptions, although this may not come easily. It could involve having to face some rather difficult truths that might be a bit disturbing or hard to accept. However in doing so, you gain a deeper understanding and acceptance of yourself, your situation and your role within it. Obsessive or persistent thoughts that are morbid or paranoid are possible, which could be helped by finding something more positive to focus on or a creative outlet. Communication (from others or yourself or both) could be intense, intimidating or even downright damaging, since it may be tempting to get caught up in power struggles and domination. But communication can also be used now to heal, by cutting through hypocrisy and insincerity in order to reach a deeper authenticity and truth – like lancing a boil so that healing can take place.
Stability in relationships and finances characterises this transit. You have increased ability to be disciplined about spending and to invest the hard work to maximise your earnings. Your ability to grasp the solid, realistic facts will help you choose wisely in your investments of both money and interaction with others. Commitment and structure are easier to achieve and embrace than change or taking risks. Self-worth can benefit now because you are less inclined to give in to mood swings. However, if you are prone to depression, you might want to be careful you don't become so grounded and stable that you lose touch with your sense of hope and potential. It is a good time to make concrete progress in matters involving beauty, love, harmony and balance. Keep your pleasures simple and humble for maximum benefit.
This aspect can make you quite talkative and your mind flooded with ideas. Be careful you don't blurt out any secrets! Your stream of consciousness ideas can flow abundantly right now with optimism and visionary possibilities. Write down your best ideas for later development, since you may be having too much fun playing with ideas, to stop and make them manifest. Basic perceptions and simple communication can provide food for thought that feeds your greater understanding and philosophical insight. Your point of view expands to identify opportunities, possibilities and the broader implications of what is happening around you. You might get a flash of vision, insight and inspiration. You could be called upon to form an opinion, consider a different viewpoint, expand your knowledge, or make a judgement call. Your conscious awareness is open to spiritual experiences right now.
Mercury is now "in the Shadow" – the area of Zodiac where it will later go retrograde in about 2½ weeks time. During its retrograde cycle, Mercury travels through the same span of the Zodiac three times (called the Shadow). The first time through, it is going in direct motion (moving forward), then retrograde (looks like it's going backwards), and then direct again. This means there is a more extensive process of development and change involved with things that Mercury influences—ideas, thoughts, frame of mind and mental focus. It also concerns the collection, exchange, analysis and organisation of information. All forms of communication are also affected. This includes not just talking, but also email and snail mail, the Internet, the media in general, books and magazines, as well as public transit (buses, trains, etc.) and neighbourhoods. The situations developing over the next couple of weeks (leading up to when Mercury actually goes retrograde) will likely require further research, deeper consideration and adjustments to unexpected discoveries over the next couple of months. Expect changes in your plans, increasingly disrupted communication, and new information coming to light that may not fit conveniently into your plans. It's wise to leave lots of extra time to do things, to plan future projects and get to wherever you're going. Patience is a valuable quality during this time. If you must make important decisions during this time, try to build some flexibility into your plans to allow for later changes—or if possible, you may want to delay final or irrevocable decisions until well after Mercury goes direct.
Information is the name of the game during a Mercury retrograde cycle! There are two books I highly recommend on retrogrades in general. One is Erin Sullivan's Retrograde Planets: Traversing the Inner Landscape which is detailed, comprehensive and very in-depth. Everything you ever wanted to know about retrograde cycles and planets! Erin's book is also available in a Kindle edition.
Another excellent retrograde book is Joanne Wickenberg's republished and updated Your Hidden Powers: Intercepted Signs and Retrograde Planets, which includes information about interceptions. It too is very comprehensive and detailed about retrograde cycles, including progressions, natal retrograde planets and transiting retrogrades.
The time has come to face facts. There may be a reality in your life that you've been avoiding, and you need to accept and deal with it. Or, you might have to conform to the expectations of others because there's no other way around it. Or, you could find that your ability to communicate, say what you want to say, or get your point across is harder for a few days. This will pass, but there may be concrete reasons why this might not be the best time to communicate whatever is on your mind. You might feel a bit as if you're being tested, and in some way this could be true. This transit may bring an opportunity to see how much you really know and how skilled you are at using that knowledge. On the other hand, this could be a time when hard work and preparation that you've done for several months could pay off. You may be able to progress to the next step in a project, or to make plans in an organised, concrete and responsible way. For a few days, taking a structured, methodical or factual approach to whatever you're doing may produce the best results.

When a caterpillar goes through its metamorphosis to become a butterfly, it sheds its skin and becomes its own chrysalis. Whatever happens inside this chrysalis is a mystery. After several hours, it is completely reformed and comes out as a butterfly. (Watch a truly fascinating video of this metamorphosis process.)
The truth is: if you open up a chrysalis, what you find is goo. It's a slimy, icky, liquid mess. The caterpillar literally goes into meltdown and then reinvents itself in a different form. Wow! What a miracle of nature! How does it do that? Well, that's the mystery, isn't it?
That process of reinvention is something that we humans also do at various times throughout our lives. Life as we know it becomes broken down and dissolves into something gooey and unfamiliar, and from that we reconstruct ourselves and our lives into a new form. This typically happens during transits from Uranus, Neptune or Pluto, as we find ourselves caught in the grip of a force beyond our control and all we can do is go with it and pray we'll survive in some intact form on the other side.
We always hope this process will be relatively painless, effortless and goo-less. We want to glide through the turmoil with a smile, with every hair miraculously in place, in complete control and with perfect grace. The reality is usually a lot messier. Life is messy, with lots of goo. And that goo is an essential part of the process of change. As life coach Eric Klein says: there's no transformation without goo-ification.
The purpose of all that goo is the reorganization, restructuring, reinventing and bringing all that messiness back into a state of order. That's the healing. But you can't heal what hasn't yet deteriorated. Healing is not the same as prevention, which is a process of preserving and sustaining a state of health. Healing is a process of reconstructing that which has become dis-integrated.
Which brings us to the Full Moon in Virgo. Virgo is about healing and health. Sometimes it's about the things we do to prevent illness and maintain health. It's also about healing—the process of recreating health out of disease and disorder. If prevention is not possible, then the ailment needs to play out its cycle of dis-integration before the healing re-integration can take place.
Virgo is also about digestion, which is another example of this process. When we ingest food, it must first be reduced to its most basic components. This starts when we chew the food, and continues throughout the digestive track where the food is broken down into moisture, solids, nutrients, fiber, acids, salts, etc. Once broken down, much of this is absorbed and used by the body—re-integrated and restructured.
This Full Moon in Virgo is all about that process of breaking things down into their basic components and the reconstruction that brings it all back into a state of functionality, balance and grace. Uranus, having just recently returned to Aries, is conjunct the Sun and opposite the Moon. (Read my new and revised articles on Uranus in Aries: The Chaos of Being Born and Playing With Fire.) Uranus is very much about dis-integrating things and reducing circumstances to a state of chaos and disarray.
The world seems to be overwhelmed with Uranian chaos lately! From revolution and rebellion in North Africa and the Middle East, to Japan besieged by earthquakes, tsunami wreckage and the risk of nuclear meltdown, there is certainly no shortage of "goo-ification" in the world.
This Full Moon is also a Supermoon – a term used by astrologer Richard Nolle to describe a New or Full Moon that is very close to the Earth. The Moon is not always the same distance from the Earth, but fluctuates quite a bit, and appears surprisingly larger or smaller at perigee (closest) or apogee (farthest), respectively.
Richard Nolle's research with this phenomenon seems to focus primarily on geological events. (Note: Richard has said that the recent earthquakes and tsunami in Japan were not a result of this Full Moon Supermoon.) However, the concept inspires the question of whether a Supermoon might also produce upheavals in our personal lives as well. Certainly for this particular one, with Uranus so prominently involved, that seems a likely possibility.
It was recently pointed out to me that the Moon's relative distance to the Earth can be gauged by finding where the Black Moon is in a chart. The Black Moon is a non-physical point that indicates approximately where the Moon is at apogee, or its farthest distance from the Earth. The diagram at right shows these two focal points – somewhat exaggerated, but you get the idea. In the current Full Moon's chart, the Black Moon is conjunct the Sun and opposite the Moon (less than 1° orb), indicating that the Moon is indeed at perigee or very close to the Earth.
M. Kelley Hunter talks about the Black Moon as being an alchemical process—in other words, a process of fundamental transformation. It is one of four places in a chart that symbolize the energy of Lilith: the mythological dark, hidden, mysterious aspect of feminine energy.
Black Moon Lilith lures us into self-centered illusions and demonstrates the undesirability of such a stance, so that we seek a deeper desire within our hearts, following the yearnings of our souls. She insists that we feel through, let go and surrender to something essential and transparent in us that is the bedrock of the soul.
– M. Kelley Hunter (Living Lilith: Four Dimensions of the Cosmic Feminine)
In a way, this Lilith energy confronts us with the dis-ease inside ourselves that needs to be dis-integrated, reconstructed and healed.
Where are you in this process? Is this a time when you are discovering something in your life or deep inside yourself that has become outmoded or counterproductive or toxic? Have you been trying valiantly to hold something together, despite it continually threatening to fall apart? Black Moon Lilith and the Virgo Full Moon and Uranus seem to be posing the question: what would happen if you finally just let it go?
It might be necessary to radically change your direction, your priorities, your resources, your beliefs, your assumptions and your perspective. You might lose what is familiar and have to adjust to something new and unfamiliar. But you would survive, and eventually thrive. It doesn't mean you'll lose everything, but it could involve rearranging, reorganizing, restructuring and reinventing some part of your life.
Perhaps something in your life or your spirit has already broken apart and you are struggling to pick up the pieces and move on. Or you might be engaged in a process of rebuilding your life and unsure how to do that or if you're on the right track.
This Full Moon could be challenging you to pay close attention to the little things that might seem insignificant but are really tiny seeds that can grow into a bountiful harvest. It's all those Virgoan details and minutia that collectively can have a force greater than the sum of its parts, and this can be used to reshape and revitalize the parts of your life that currently seem shattered, tangled up, cluttered or obscure.
Jupiter is approaching its final opposition to Saturn, which pits very different energies against each other. On one hand there is the desire for freedom, ideals and a sense of connection to something greater than yourself. On the other hand, there is discipline, productivity and the need to pay attention to the reality in front of you (not the possibilities that beckon from down the road).
Virgo's ruler, Mercury, is in Aries, indicating that this healing process might be highly energized and spontaneous. Mercury is also conjunct Jupiter, so it is bringing the Jupiter-Saturn opposition into significant focus for the Full Moon. This could increase the vacillation between wanting to just let all that hardship and struggle go versus the determination to stay your course and forge ahead. Which choice is the better one for you right now will depend on where you are in that transformation process.
It's possible that Mercury in Aries will simply know instinctively which is the right direction for you. However, if you find yourself wrestling back and forth about it then it's likely that you are resisting what you know in your gut is the better direction for you to go. In this case, use the Virgo Moon to examine your options, rearrange your resources, experiment with different priorities, and see what kind of creative solutions emerge.

Happy Solar Return to everyone born in the sign of Aries! This is the Vernal Equinox – the time when day and night are of equal length. In the northern hemisphere, this marks the beginning of Spring, as the light increases. In the southern hemisphere, it is the start of Fall, as the light decreases. While the Sun is in Aries, it is a time when all of us (not just those born under the sign of Aries) have the opportunity to experience our Aries nature. The archetype of that nature is like the pure life force that is contained in a single seed. A seed is the residue of a previous cycle of growth – both its resulting harvest and its unfinished business. The Aries energy is about our use of that raw life force within our personal expression of that energy. It manifests in assertiveness, courage, risk-taking, directness, initiative, our sex drive, and the pioneering spirit. It can also emerge as aggression, pushiness, violence, anger, recklessness and self-absorption. The same forceful energy that can fuel damage and single-minded egotism is the same energy that, applied in a different way, is also essential for self-validation, confidence and the drive to make things happen. While the Sun is in Aries, we all have the opportunity to explore how we use this energy in our lives and whether we want to change this. Here are some suggestions about how to explore your Aries nature: Is there something new you want to start in your life? What activities do you want to begin that you’ve never done before? What will give you the courage and confidence to bring these into your life? If it is not possible to do this, or if you encounter delays, how do you deal with your frustration? Do anger and frustration motivate you to take action, or do these emotions tend to overwhelm and inhibit you? How do you express your anger, and does this clear the air or just create more problems? Use this time to explore these and related areas.
Spontaneity, surprises and "flying by the seat of your pants" characterize this transit. You are more open than usual to new experiences and open-minded to new perspectives. Your sense of humour and fun are finely tuned and may spring up unexpectedly and irreverently. It is more possible to break free of old habits and getting out of a rut you have been in. In fact, you may find it is fun to try doing something completely out of character...so much so that it's wise to be careful not to be too reckless under this transit. Have fun pushing the envelope, but try not to rip or shred that envelope. On the other hand, that might be the only way you can get out of a restrictive situation that's holding you back, and this transit could give you the impulsive courage to do just that. Your creativity may come in bursts and in unexpected ways, so try to take advantage of them when they present themselves or else write down your inspiration for future consideration.
Earth Hour begins at 8:30 PM in your local time zone. For one hour, everyone is asked to turn off all non-essential lights and electrical equipment. This is the 4th year of this global event! It is held annually to promote awareness of the need to conserve energy and use more earth-friendly habits. For more information, go to the Earth Hour website.
This can be a time of romance and dreamy desire on one hand, or deceptive manipulation and self-serving negotiation on the other hand. At its best, this transit can inspire enormous creativity and healing faith in love and abundance. We can be extremely open to the loftiest possibilities of our close relationships and our ability to attract what and who we desire. However, it may not be as easy to assess these areas in light of the realities that must be dealt with in order to realise that potential. We may find it easier to have faith in the power of negotiation – that the Universe will ensure our desired outcome – but it is also easy to slide into wishful thinking that loses touch with the reality of the situation. If you are considering a major change involving income, investment, spending or resources, it is probably a good idea to do a reality check with a trusted friend or advisor. If you are starting a new relationship or negotiating changes to an existing one, it might be wise to take a long-term view to wait and see if your dreams really will come true or if your hopes are colouring your thinking a bit too much. A reality check with a trusted friend might also help with this. This transit begins a new cycle that brings these issues into our lives to explore and gradually unfolds over the next 12 months (approximately).
In many areas of Europe, it is time to turn your clocks one hour forward. If you're not sure whether your area observes DST, you can check here to see when and if your location changes to DST.
Creativity, harmony and compassion permeate our experiences while Venus waltzes through Pisces. If you are an artist, musician, writer or other imaginative artisan, this can be a time of great creative inspiration. Even if you're not, this can still be a time when your appreciation of the arts is heightened and your sensual enjoyment of life increases. Relationships can be influenced by this placement, by encouraging more openness to love and romance. While this can make interaction smoother and more magical, it might also make you more vulnerable to deception or disappointment. Be receptive don't misplace your better judgment. This can also be a time when you are prone to feeling a Universal Oneness with humanity. You may find you have increased capacity for compassion, caring and connection with others. This, too, can be a mixed blessing – it can bring out your most loving side, but could also make you more easily taken advantage of. You might feel inspired to make a selfless sacrifice, or to donate money or resources as a form of service. It is all done in the name of Universal beauty, truth and compassion. Celebrate this transit by going to a concert of beautiful music, or stroll through an art gallery, or indulge in dreamy sensuality, or let yourself feel a loving connection with all that is around you.
This can be a challenging time, when your sense of purpose, identity and direction may feel blocked, overpowered or regulated by forces beyond your control. You may find yourself confronted by difficult situations or people, requiring that you rally an unusually strong show of power to keep from feeling powerless or overwhelmed. The trick is to center yourself in empowerment rather than simple power – that means your power comes from within yourself rather than from controlling people and situations outside of yourself. You might find yourself involved in power struggles or abandonment, either in the present or stirred up from the past. You might be forced to let go of your attachment to something or someone due to circumstances beyond your control. However, this can also be a time when you reach inside yourself and find you have more strength than you thought you did. Adversity may inspire new assertiveness and purpose in you – empowerment born of conflict and struggle.
The forces of freedom, confidence and expansion (Jupiter) are having a tug of war with the forces of responsibility, humility and pruning back (Saturn). You could easily find yourself swinging from trying to be disciplined, productive and staying on the "straight and narrow," to wanting to break free of all that to roam and explore new horizons, and back to buckling down to what you're "supposed to" be doing because you want the results this can give you. Another possibility is that you could find yourself taking on one of these extremes and then polarizing to someone else who personifies the other extreme. So you might be the responsible one and then resent someone else because they're being footloose and fancy free. Or you might be the one taking wing with new ideas, travels or spiritual inspiration, and annoyed when someone else tries to drag you back down to earth to fulfil what's expected of you instead. We could easily see this drama played out on a community or global scale between people, organizations, political agendas or interests that are in conflict with each other.
Another implication of the Jupiter-Saturn opposition is that it is the fruition point of the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Taurus that happened in 2000. Think back to 2000 and what began in your life at that time which has developed since then. Certainly, the events of September 11th 2001 have rather overshadowed other things that came before, but think back to what was happening in your life during that year. What has come of that? Can you see how there is an essence of what emerged at that time, that has grown and developed since then? This transit represents a time when you can look back between now and then and take stock of how far you've grown.
The next 10 years (until the next Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in December 2020) will be a time when you take what has developed and integrate it, like fitting a piece within a larger puzzle that is your life. Now that you "have" this quality or ability or knowledge or perspective or skill or whatever "it" is, what can you do with it? How can your life be changed as a result? What can you do now with your life that you couldn't do 10 years ago? This Jupiter-Saturn opposition represents a turning point in this greater process, where instead of working to develop whatever it is, you are now challenged to find ways to utilize it.
This is an infrequent transit, occurring about every 18-20 years. Were you, or someone you know, born under this transit? Jupiter/Saturn oppositions: 1910-11 (Scorpio/Taurus), 1930-31 (Cancer/Capricorn), 1951-52 (Pisces/Virgo and Aries/Libra), 1969-71 (Scorpio/Taurus and Sagittarius/Gemini), 1989-91 (Cancer/Capricorn and Leo/Aquarius), 2010-11 (Pisces/Virgo and Aries/Libra), 2029-31 (Scorpio/Taurus and Sagittarius/Gemini).
This is the last of 3 passes of this transit: May.23.2010, Aug.16.2010 and Mar.28.2011. This is one of the transits that made up the Cardinal Cross in 2010, which included Pluto forming a T-square with Jupiter and Uranus on one side and Saturn on the other, all in Cardinal signs. Although the orbs are much wider now, this final pass of Jupiter opposed Saturn pulls in some of that Cardinal Cross energy again. Uranus is not part of the group this time, but Jupiter and Saturn are widely in orb to square Pluto, forming a T-square aspect pattern. This Cardinal T-square is in effect roughly from Mar.21-31, and will linger through April as other planets come along to fill in the corner where Jupiter is now.
During this time you will have the opportunity to test out, apply and adjust what you learned last year during the tumultuous Cardinal Cross (most powerful from April through September of 2010). This was a time of transformation and digging down below the surface of the familiar to expose and rework the issues that were driving the split energies of freedom versus anarchy, control versus power, conformity versus cooperation, and individuality versus insubordination. These struggles were playing out within the Collective as well as in people's private lives.
As these dynamics come back again this year, we are in a position to see things with new eyes, having experienced these energies and processed those experiences. When you look at the events of last year, or at similar events repeating now, what do you see that is different from how you saw them last year? Do you think that is because you are seeing a more complete picture now, or because you feel compelled to go along with popular (or rebellious) opinion? Alternatively, what part of your perspective has remained the same or strengthened, and do you think that is due to clarity or stubbornness?
Whatever your position and perspective, you may be called upon to take a stand about it and decide if that still fits with your values, beliefs and priorities. This is not merely a "test" where you will be judged by whether you get "the right answer." There is no right or wrong answer—there is only learning and evolution and transformation. The important thing is to learn something as you go through this revisiting of similar energy. Keep questioning why you feel the way you do, why your position is the way it is, and what this says about you and the world around you. As a teacher of mine used to say: if you think you've got all the answers, are you sure you're asking the right questions?
Unresolved problems and old wounds in relationships and finances may be in the foreground now, with potential for a new beginning and healing. However, in order to heal something, it is first necessary to become more aware of what is out of balance, which can make a situation seem to get worse before it gets better. You have the ability to wound those close to you, as well as to bring healing, as you explore what is and isn't working in your relationships. It is also a time when your approach to finances and resources may require that you face some hard realities that may not be easily or quickly resolved, but dealing with any problems will give you the chance to achieve a new balance. This is especially true when it comes to the ways that you see your physical resources as a reflection of your self-worth, and the relationships in your life as a reflection of your lovability. These issues may become aggravated under this transit, but ultimately this is meant to increase your awareness of these issues so that you can start to heal them in new ways.
Mercury now goes retrograde for the next 3+ weeks. For up to a week before and after today, Mercury is moving very slowly or stopped during the station. During this time, you may experience intensity, frustration, confusion, miscommunications, or feel like you're getting bogging down in your progress. Mercury retrograde is usually a time when it is best to rethink, rehash, reflect, and tie up old loose ends, rather than begin new ventures.
It is typical for new insights and information to emerge later in the retrograde cycle that you didn't anticipate, which can change the whole picture. Because of this, it is usually advised to avoid making final or permanent decisions (e.g., signing contracts or putting new projects into action), during the retrograde and even up to 2 weeks after Mercury goes direct. However, it is an excellent time to do fact-finding, research and investigation to prepare for major decisions, which are usually best put off until well after Mercury goes direct.
In the meantime, while Mercury is retrograde, expect the unexpected, and leave lots of extra time when planning your schedule (to minimize any disruptions from delays and complications). Stay flexible; for example, it's common to have to reschedule appointments. Do some things that use your intuitive, creative, non-rational mind for a while until Mercury goes direct again.
Mercury is retrograde in Aries, which can mean you're in for a lot of fluctuation in your thoughts and perceptions. You may find it difficult to make a firm decision because every event or feeling triggers a new thought or perspective. You might change your mind several times before making up your mind (probably best done well after Mercury goes direct). You might also find yourself blurting out things that you normally keep to yourself. This may be because you're so attuned to your inner thoughts and ideas that it's easy to "think out loud" – which may or may not be a good thing! You might experience more impatience and frustration than usual now, especially if you keep trying to carry on "business as usual" in your way of thinking and communicating. It is likely to work better if you take some time to focus on your inner thoughts and deciding what you really need to say, which can prepare you to use your better judgment when the time comes.
Mars is in his own sign while in Aries, which stokes the fires of passion, enthusiasm, drive, and a pioneering spirit. Assertive, decisive action can come more easily now...but then, so can anger and conflict. This is a good time to initiate new projects and activities, and move old projects forward, taking advantage of the courage and daring that is in the air now. However, the results will be better if you are able to channel this energy through a focused goal, rather than going on impulse alone. The tendency to take risks is also high right now, which can be a mixed blessing. It's best to avoid complications and problems that can arise from being reckless or irresponsible, but do use this energy to muster the courage to take pre-planned action.
Close one-on-one relationships with people (close friends, lovers, partners of all kinds) could possibly benefit by being taken to a deeper level now, through creatively combining balanced harmony with deep connection. Just be careful that intimacy and bonding don't go over the top into obsession or domination. There is a brief opportunity now to become more authentic in how you relate to those close to you and how you establish a balance of power with them. The trick is to do this without trying to suppress, control or overpower the other person's interests. Financially, it is a time when you may have an opportunity to profit in your dealings with banks, insurance companies, taxes, and other institutions that deal with collective money.
In areas of Australia that observe Daylight Savings Time, it is time to turn your clocks back one hour. If you're not sure whether your area observes DST, you can check here to see when and if your location changes to Standard Time.
