You can wait forever for perfect conditions, or you can make the best of what you got now.
~ Jack Layton
If there's anything that drives Virgo crazy more than imperfection, it's being "that close" to it and missing it!
Some things just won't cooperate in the perfection manifestation process. How rude of them! Things like the past, ideals, faith or humanness.
The past is what it is. It can't be undone. You can try to correct mistakes as you move into the future, but the past can't be changed. Hence, it can't be perfected.
Ideals would seem to be perfect by definition, so how is it they resist perfection? Virgo is an Earth sign, which means it is all about manifesting intention into form; from energy into time and space. But ideals don't convert into form easily, and there's always something lost in the translation. The Neptunian realm has little in common with the world of Saturn.
The more you try to force ideals to manifest precisely, the more they slip through your fingers (behaving more like Virgo's opposite sign, Pisces, the slippery fishes). And if you do manage to squeeze, cajole and force reality to conform to your vision of perfection, you often lose something essential that was the whole point of the exercise.
Why? Because if you have to force something that hard then it is going against the grain of its natural inclination. It's not that struggle and pushing yourself beyond your current capability is counterproductive or pointless. On the contrary, any improvement, growth and transformation requires enormous effort, commitment, energy and dedication. But it has to evolve in its own time.
You can't keep pushing the river and expect that you won't muddy the waters. Neither can you expect that shifting currents will remain clear all the time. There needs to be a rhythm, a balance, where the effects of one action are allowed to adjust and integrate into the whole before you move forward with the next action.
This is the balance inherent in the Virgo-Pisces axis. Virgo strives to be something better, while Pisces seeks to simply be. Each end of the spectrum needs the other in order to avoid getting stuck in either austerity or stagnation.
We are now at a New Moon in Virgo. Something new is being conceived which will grow toward full emergence at the Full Moon in Pisces on Sep.12. How you begin something imprints its life cycle with your vision of what could be, as well as the residue of what was. The previous cycle contributes the seeds from what had come to fruition, be that success or failure, learning or denial. It all gets reincarnated into the new cycle where it is born into a new form.
The New Moon in Virgo says its purpose is to take what didn't work in the last cycle and improve it and correct it—perfect it, if possible. And what did work gets to join in the effort to help achieve the betterment of the unfinished business. It becomes a resource to draw on and use as a tool that can help to sculpt and shape what is growing in the new cycle.
It's very significant that we have a New Moon in Virgo just as its ruling planet, Mercury, has turned direct after a retrograde period. Mercury retrograde is all about going back over what was and reviewing it, redoing it, reformulating it, redirecting it and revising it. So now Mercury emerges from its retrograde sabbatical with a second chance to improve on what happened the first time around. Or, if it's not about correcting past mistakes, it's about pointing toward a new direction as a result of finishing something that needed closure.
Always dream a dream that lasts longer than a lifetime.
~ Jack Layton
So the New Moon in Virgo brings a fresh start on a number of levels. The question is: in which direction are you pointing your fresh start? Are you taking that Virgo energy and browbeating yourself for all that you have not yet accomplished? Or are you using it as a lens through which to focus on your direction and destination?
The New Moon is conjunct Venus, also in Virgo. This suggests that cooperation, love and harmony are the best ways to achieve your goals. However, Venus in Virgo can also bring an agenda of perfectionism to those qualities that could also turn them into coercion, conformity and rigidity. So: are you working cooperatively, as a co-creator of reality, to allow the present to organically grow into a future that is inspired by your vision? Or are you determined to demand that you and the world around you become assimilated into a one-dimensional, rigid formula? (At its extreme, this would feel like you've been captured by the Borg on Star Trek!)
The New Moon is opposite Chiron and Neptune, in Pisces and Aquarius respectively. Chiron is about bringing a healing process to things that may not be entirely repairable. Like the Serenity Prayer, Chiron urges us to fix what can be fixed, but also to come to terms with whatever parts of the problem may be unfixable. Not all problems are solvable to the point where they can be dismissed and forgotten. You can't un-ring the bell, although you can wait out the sound effects or block your ears if it's too loud.
This kind of "do what you can and find a way to bear the rest" can drive Virgo a little nuts when she's in a perfectionist mood. Surely there must be a way to do something more, to hone the edge just a little sharper. Dangle the unattainable bliss and idealism of Neptune and Pisces in Virgo's line of vision and she could become unrelenting in her determination to have her way with the Universe.
Again, the important thing is to achieve that balance between just being and being something, between living as a human being or a human doing.
My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.
~ Jack Layton
The New Moon and Venus are also part of a Grand Trine in Earth signs that includes Jupiter in Taurus and Pluto in Capricorn. In fact, it's almost a Kite, if you include the opposition to Chiron-Neptune which are sextile to Pluto. (Jupiter and Chiron are a bit wide for a sextile that would make it a true Kite.) The possibility of manifesting an ideal into practical, tangible, enduring reality is very enticing, but it will require you to establish that Pisces/Virgo balance.
Add to this the fact that Jupiter is stationary! It goes retrograde the next day, so its energy is especially strong right now. That means all the Jupiter-in-Taurus qualities are likely to be amplified—good and bad. On one hand, you might be especially idealistic or visionary about how to spend your resources and assets. On the other hand, Jupiter's hunger for more-more-more could become quite greedy and difficult to satisfy.
Venus trines Jupiter exactly within about an hour of when the Jupiter station is exact, which is likely to greatly amplify the effect of that aspect. Your capacity for pleasure, love and optimism is especially pronounced, for better or worse. It may be easy to slip into overindulgence, so be careful about becoming overly enamoured with chocolate ice cream, glittery baubles and other sensory delights. If you discover someone under this transit who seems to be the man or woman of your dreams, best to avoid any commitments or testaments of undying love until the infatuation high fades enough to actually see them more clearly. In the meantime, enjoy the glow in the moment!
There are also two Quadriform aspect patterns darting through the skies right now! I wrote about both of them in the last update. There's the one aimed at Mercury from the Uranus-Pluto square. And there's the one aimed at Chiron and Neptune from the Mars-Saturn square. Never let it be said we don't live in "interesting" times!
The week leading up to the Mercury direct station and New Moon has been an emotional roller coaster for many. These two Quadriforms have added much turmoil and stress to the mix. There was a rare earthquake felt along the east coast of the US and Canada, followed by Hurricane Irene. Here in Canada, we have seen the death and mourning of the much loved and respected Jack Layton, leader of the NDPs, who succumbed to cancer just as he had achieved unprecedented political success. We have also seen Libyan rebels taking control of Tripoli after months of armed conflict. There is also the continuing violence against protestors in Syria.
In the context of the New Moon, the overall effect of the Quadriform aspect patterns can be to pull the tightrope that many of us are walking lately even tighter. This can put more demands on you and give you less flexibility, which means the way you are balancing yourself becomes even more important.
The one thing to avoid is getting caught in the escalating adjustment syndrome, where you keep trying to force a state of balance, only to find you have to compensate even more the other way, and back and forth. This can lead to that Virgo trap of perfectionism that can never be achieved perfectly. Trying to chase down and grab the uncooperative elements can start to feel like a game of Whack-a-Mole!
If you get stuck in the overcompensation syndrome and life seems to be spinning out of control, that's when you should probably try the Pisces side of things—let go. It doesn't mean you give up, it just means you stop the vicious cycle of reactive compensation so that you can start again in a better way. And isn't that what this New Moon in Virgo at the Mercury direct station is all about? If you aren't sure how to let go without everything crashing around you, contact me for a personal reading. Your luck and opportunity to attract money, love, resources and self-esteem are high right now. The flow of attraction (whether that is magnetizing people, things or opportunities) is riding a strong current right now. You could find it easier than usual to get the resources and abundance for whatever you need right now. On the other hand, "your eyes may be bigger than your stomach" (as mother used to say), meaning your desire may magnify your sense of need beyond what is wise. You may be tempted to spend, flirt or bluff your way through situations, preferring to ignore or avoid hardship, boundaries or drudgery. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but be careful you don't get your hopes up so high that you set yourself up for disappointment or make promises you can't keep. It's probably wise to balance this easy flowing energy with some discretion and good judgement.
For up to a week before and after this date (while Jupiter is moving very slowly and stopped during the station), you may experience an increase in idealism, longing or inspiration. Your opinions, beliefs and assumptions may come under question, as your understanding of life and the world around you now requires further study. While Jupiter is retrograde over the next five months, you may have to re-examine your assumptions, attitudes, biases and judgments about one or more situations. It can be a time to gather more knowledge and look at things from a different perspective, which can change your interpretation of events.
Right now at the station there is the turning point, which might inspire you to explore already-known territory in a new way, or it could disrupt your journey because your map of the territory isn't accurate or up-to-date. This especially applies to situations that have been developing in the last three months (since Jupiter entered the shadow). Allow yourself to be open to new possibilities emerging gradually out of old situations. There is a deeper understanding that can result from exploring things from a different perspective and questioning what you think you know. That which is known and familiar may seem strangely irrelevant or foreign for a while, yet will eventually become integrated and understood again after Jupiter goes direct in five months.
Venus trines Jupiter exactly as Jupiter is stationary, which brings a very warm and fuzzy demeanour to the Jupiter station. This is also especially significant because Venus is Jupiter's dispositor (rules Taurus, where Jupiter is now). It's a time to celebrate the people and things that give you pleasure and allow you to feel tranquil and joyful. Just be careful not to overdo the celebration! That's a possibility under this configuration. Go for quality rather than quantity.
This is a time when your understanding of the Big Picture and your place within it can click into place. As a result, your confidence and self-esteem can be quite high right now. Your ability to see opportunities and possibilities more clearly can produce an experience of being "lucky." Your insight into life and the world around you may be especially bright, optimistic and inspired. This is a "feel-good" transit, when your sense of self can seem to expand and become free. You may feel especially connected to spiritual energy during this time, finding new meaning in your live and the events that unfold around you. Self-confidence can run high now, and you could feel inspired to fight for justice or some cause. At the same time, there is a chance that all this self-assurance and "knowing" could go overboard into over-confidence, dogmatism or over-indulgence if it's not grounded in realism and humility. Just use your best judgment and enjoy this warm, shining energy!
Inspired thinking, mental fantasy, imaginative ideas and lucid dreams are likely during this transit. This can result in enormous creativity that sees inspiration and magical ideas in the world around you (be sure to write them down to develop later). Your communication may be unusually intuitive and inspiring now. However, it can also be a time when your perceptions about reality are a bit off and coloured by wishful thinking and irrational conclusions. Doing a reality check with a trusted friend or advisor is a good idea, especially if you are trying to make important decisions right now. But be sure to explore any non-rational or irrational thinking, since the veil between the conscious and unconscious mind is thin now and you can learn much by observing your thoughts and perceptions.
This is the third of 3 passes: Jul.29, Aug.08 and Sep.08. This aspect has dominated the Mercury retrograde cycle of Jul.15 to Sep.09 (the time it has spent in the Shadow), bringing a particularly dreamy and nebulous energy to this cycle, as well as being creative and inspiring. The energy will no doubt begin to "normalize" after this pass. It's up to you to take whatever you have been inspired or moved by during this time and put it into practice or integrate it into your worldview. If this has been a difficult cycle for you, this is the time when you can look back and discover what you can learn from your experiences.
Mercury moves into its own sign of Virgo, where it brings an awareness of health, healing, work and service. This is a good time to be analytical, methodical and focused on improvement. But be careful not to get so lost in details or perfectionism that you can't see the forest for the trees. This energy is well spent by finding ways to make your work and the pursuit of your goals more efficient and effective. Try organising your activities better and prioritizing them according to what works well and what needs improvement and how. This is especially true for any health issues that keep getting pushed to the back burner. Whatever your plans, this transit can help you organise an effective strategy to move you forward.
Mercury finally leaves the shadow—the part of the zodiac where it was retrograde. This means the confusion, delays and miscommunications of the last 2 months have mostly dissipated and things should be more or less back to normal (whatever that is). The difference is that you now have the benefit of seeing things from a different perspective after having reconsidered, rethought and rehashed information and perceptions over the past 2 months. This gives you more choices than you had before. In fact, you may find that although you thought something was a good idea a month or two ago, you now realize that a different approach, decision or way of understanding it is better. If you've been waiting until Mercury finished with the retrograde cycle before you made a final decision about something or taking action on something, this is the time to take another look at whatever that is. Just don't forget your common sense, and remember that Mercury is only one factor to take into consideration regarding the timing of a decision. Use your best judgment and wisdom.
Mercury will enter the Shadow again on Nov.05, 2011.
You could experience extra sensitivity, compassion or sympathy toward the problems and suffering of others under this transit. One possibility is that you encounter more people than usual who are struggling with problems that are brought to your attention. Another possibility is that you might be on the receiving end of the results of their suffering – for example, if someone takes out their frustration or discouragement on you. Yet another option is that you may encounter others who are sensitive to and able to offer help for your own ongoing problems and struggles. You may be in a special position to have insight into the problems of others, or they into yours. Exchange of information, experiences, ideas and theories could be useful. You might also experience a difficult interaction with someone that raises an old issue about style of communication (for example, words might be spoken with good intentions that instead cause hurt). This is a good time to listen and observe, and you might catch a glimpse of some ironic or paradoxical truth.
It is possible now to take a balanced approach to conflict, problems and projects that require effort. This can combine both a gentle touch and firm action; sensitivity and forcefulness. Negotiation and interaction with others could be aggressive and determined now, but also balanced with sensitivity and style. Any expressions of anger, frustration or discontent are more likely to be tempered with fairness, moderation and composure. You'll have to apply some effort to get these opposite energies working in sync together, but the potential and opportunity are there more-so than usual now.
It is possible to dive deep below the surface now, in your perception of situations, other people and yourself. If you have been working on trying to understand the deeper motivations and dynamics of what is happening in your life, there could be a breakthrough now. The light may finally go on in the darker corners that have eluded you, and your penetrating insight. You could find a way to articulate these perceptions and speak your mind in a way that is unusually powerful or intense (so be careful you don't inadvertently blow your audience out of the water). This transit can bring an opportunity to shed and leave behind old worn out perceptions or ineffective forms of communication. Try writing down your thoughts and ideas to capture the energy of this transit. This is the only exact pass for this transit, since Pluto was out of range when Mercury came through this area two months ago.
A Wish for 9/11
Since this update is going up at the 10th anniversary of the September 11th disaster, I want to start by extending my heartfelt sympathies to anyone who lost a family member, loved one, friend, neighbour or colleague in that tragedy. To all of us who have been so profoundly affected by the events of that day, I wish for us the faith and courage to allow healing, renewed wholeness and grace. Whether you are Christian or Muslim, religious or atheist, rich or poor, enraged or despairing, frightened or numb, open-hearted or closed-minded – may this milestone anniversary allow us all to take one step closer to peace, compassion and tolerance; to embrace the things that connect us, and to respect and seek to understand the things that make us different. May there be peace in our hearts, peace between each other and peace with our planet.

That Mercury Retrograde cycle we just came through was a humdinger! Mercury's opposition to Neptune was a trip and a half. Is there anyone who didn't experience the ground beneath their feet disappearing for a time under that transit? Or maybe spinning their wheels in the mud for a while? Or perhaps feeling like you were wafting through a dream? How about all of the above?
Neptune energy is tricky because there's nothing to grab onto. Like a slippery fish, its energy slips through your fingers as soon as you reach for it. The same is true for Pisces energy. It's like trying to catch a cloud. And the more you try to seize it, the more it dissipates and you've lost it.
Put any planet in Pisces or in strong aspect to Neptune and that planet becomes a shape-shifter. Put Mars there and anger becomes fury in the name of higher purpose, although personal purpose can sneak in there through your blind spot. Put the Sun there and your sense of self easily becomes merged with others until you're not sure where you stop and they begin.
Put the Moon there—like with the current Full Moon in Pisces—and your intuition, feelings and sensitivity become gossamer thin, picking up emotions, intentions and motives of those around you. Empathy can become so acute that it actually hurts to witness suffering, cruelty or pain. Creative imagination can permeate your inner being until your spirit simply cannot rest until your inspiration has been expressed or acknowledged in some way.
The Moon is very absorbent as it is, and while travelling through Pisces it can become downright waterlogged. If you're a creative person, or if you're in need of some psychic exercise, or if you have a healthy sense of boundaries to protect yourself, this can truly be a blessing. If you're the kind of person who gets nervous without a solid structure around you, or if you collapse yourself too easily into a feeling connection with other people, or if your moral compass spins a little too fast when affected by your feelings and emotions, then this placement can leave you feeling like you just landed on some distant planet and you're not sure how you got there.
You see things; and you say, "Why?" But I dream things that never were; and I say, "Why not?"
~ George Bernard Shaw
Whatever rises from the depths of our unconscious becomes manifest, either in the world around us or in the way we perceive and experience that world. But even if we're aware of it, it rarely looks the way we expect it to.
Neither Neptune nor Pisces manifests precisely. They become distorted, twisted and obscured. In an effort to bring things into clearer focus, we tend to fill in the gaps with what we think is there. But this is like trying to focus on a reflection in rippling water—it shifts and changes constantly.
Such an ambiguous environment becomes the perfect medium to project our hopes, fears, assumptions and beliefs. This can have two effects: it can sway what happens to the energy in a particular direction, and/or it can amplify the shape-shifting quality of what we're seeing because the reality doesn't match what we're expecting to see.
Adjusting our perceptions and/or our response to what we do see tends to create a pendulum effect, as the situation sways to and fro with the shifting weight of our focus. This can increase the polarized fluctuation between our inner and outer experiences, between our personal interests and the objective situation, and between our determination to deal concretely with problems versus our longing to just give up, surrender and not have to think about it anymore.
Every extreme attitude is a flight from the self.
~ Eric Hoffer
In the Full Moon chart, this is reflected by a massive multiple opposition, as well as the planets being distributed in a See-saw pattern (more or less; although an argument could also be made for a Splash pattern, which still doesn't help much). On one side of the oppositions are Chiron and the Moon in Pisces, plus Uranus in Aries. On the other side are Mercury, the Sun and Venus, all in Virgo. Like the New Moon in Virgo, we are again entangled in the dynamics of Virgo and Pisces.
Mercury (just freshly out of the retrograde Shadow) is still within sniffing distance of its opposition to Neptune and about to leave its orb of influence forever! (...well, until it comes around again in another year, but thankfully isn't retrograde when it does). It's also separating from the opposition to Chiron. So our perceptions and ability to put our intentions into motion are still a little blurry around the edges, but definitely on the easier downslope side of the hill.
The rest of the oppositions are like a bouncing ball that ricochets off facing walls. The Virgo Sun opposes the Pisces Moon, the Moon opposes Venus and Venus opposes Uranus. Boing, boing, boing! This back-and-forth dynamic could allow for some delicate fine-tuning of whatever is emerging since the New Moon 2 weeks ago.
Or, it could just magnify the polarization effect, making it easier to get into a reactive syndrome. The Moon also disposits Mars in Cancer, so Mars is fed a meal of extremes struggling to find equilibrium and balance. Mars tends to be reactive at the best of times (yes, even in gentle Cancer), so this is likely to add to the effect of polarization or fine-tuning.
Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.
~ Vincent van Gogh
The thing to avoid is getting stuck in a spaghetti tactic—you know: the old method of testing if spaghetti is cooked by throwing a strand at the wall to see if sticks. In this approach, you just keep hurling one new action or idea after another at the situation in the hope that something will work! This is more likely to increase the polarization and instability of the situation than to suddenly click into a solution.
All those Virgo planets need to plan and assess the outcome of your actions, or the potential of your ideas, or the implications of your feelings, etc. Virgo is all for making any necessary adjustments (being a Mutable sign), but it definitely believes in aiming before firing.
That Pisces Moon doesn't much care about the finer details that Virgo fusses about, but its role is to go into its intuitive centre and feel whether the result is working or not. Does it fit into the big picture like the perfect puzzle piece that has that patch of blue sky, the edge of the sunlit cloud and the wing tip of the seagull? How does it fit with the puzzle pieces around it? Virgo will analyze to see if everything matches up. Pisces will just know if it works right.
So take some time to allow both Virgo and Pisces to do their jobs. Each has a crucial role to play.
Jupiter, the traditional ruler of Pisces, helps by contributing its abundance of Taurus riches and resources through the Grand Trine in Earth signs (leftover from the Grand Trine at the New Moon in Virgo). It knows the secret passage into the mine of Pluto's hidden treasures, although you'll have to go there yourself and do your own digging and hauling. Jupiter can also work cooperatively with Mercury in Virgo, although you'll have to do the sifting and sorting through the ideas, words, perceptions and perspectives that can be found between them. Trines don't usually make things happen, but they do offer gifts and opportunities that can be welcome resources for other areas of the chart.
The paradox of reality is that no image is as compelling
as the one which exists only in the mind's eye.

Just to make things interesting, we also have a Yod aspect pattern that begins at the Full Moon and lasts roughly until the next New Moon in Libra on Sep.27. The apex of the Yod is shared by Neptune and Chiron which are conjunct within about 3 degrees. First the Mars-Venus sextile forms a Yod to Neptune. Then, around Sep.18, Venus leaves and the Sun moves in to take her place in the Yod. Then, around Sep.23, Mercury moves in and holds up that corner of the Yod until finally Mars moves out of orb around the 26th.
This Yod again puts a focus on Neptune and Chiron and pushes us to deal with their indistinct energies. It's possible that, similar to Mercury's opposition during its retrograde cycle, Mars will find it difficult to put resources, strategies, intentions and ideas into action during this time. The trick is to aim high—strive to be inspired by a vision that exceeds your current circumstances, but realize that for now you must work with the tools and building blocks of the here-and-now.
In a sense, Yods push us to have a kind of faith that you really can "get there from here" even though the path seems blocked or nonexistent. You'll need to think outside the box and be willing to make adjustments to make it fit—both the mundane to reflect the higher vision, and to enable the vision to be imprinted on your ordinary everyday life.
One step at a time is a good idea, even when you're walking on sunshine and clouds.

The Cardinal Cross again hovers in the skies, although this time it's relatively brief. It starts with the Uranus-Pluto square. First Venus, then the Sun, then Mercury cross into Libra and complete the T-square. Venus remains in orb until Sep.22. The Sun joins in from around Sep.21 to Oct.04. And Mercury gets involved from Sep.25 to Oct.01. In fact, on Sep.27 the next New Moon in Libra will form this T-square aspect pattern. And on Sep.28, Mercury and Sun reach exact conjunction, and they're exactly square to Pluto, so the next lunar cycle is likely to be a powerful one!
The overall effects of the T-square will be to challenge us to take yet another step through the looking glass of extremes, polarization, strategic revolution and the transformation of how we achieve equilibrium and balance. With so many Libra planets opposing Uranus, zealous reactions to the ideologies of others could be lurking around many corners. Expect the political atmospheres of both Canada and the US to intensify during this time, as each side attempts to out-manoeuvre and gain the advantage over the other(s). One thing with Pluto involved: no matter what happens, each of us is escorted by the Underworld ruler into a process of change that will leave us forever changed.
So, what you take with you into that realm in terms of attitudes, intentions, motives and priorities will matter a lot! This makes the Neptunian exercises of this current lunar cycle even more important, since it can help you to not lose sight of the higher purpose and hopeful vision that can shine a light when you find yourself in Pluto's darker corners.
This transit can make you quite talkative and flooded with ideas, along with those around you. Your stream of consciousness can flow abundantly with optimism and visionary possibilities. Write down your best ideas for later development, since you may be having too much fun now playing with ideas to want to stop and make them manifest just yet. Your outlook is usually optimistic and open-minded under this transit, although it might simply neutralize an already pessimistic frame of mind. You are likely to be more open to spiritual or philosophical perspectives, being more able to see yourself as part of something greater than yourself. You might even find that luck comes your way because you are more receptive to opportunities and possibilities.
Venus glides like a graceful model through her own sign of Libra, giving you the opportunity to expand your interactive style, cultivate diplomacy, beautify your surroundings, schmooze with social connections, and discover a new fashion statement. Find something beautiful, balanced or harmonious to appreciate or do during this time. You might consider visiting an art gallery, or watch a romantic movie, or listen to music that moves you into a peaceful place inside. You might feel drawn to going shopping for beautiful clothes or items to decorate your home. It can also be a good time to negotiate agreements with people, in a way that is fair and is focused on a win-win solution. Do something to celebrate, express and discover your inner and/or outer beauty. Find new ways to balance your own interests with those of others, which generates good will and harmony.
For about a week before and after, you may experience energy that is intense, compelling and transformative, as Pluto changes direction to its normal forward motion. If you've been going through deep, cathartic changes in your life over the last 6 months to a year, you may find that this station brings a shift in how you are able to approach those changes. This might be a time when you feel the weight of power struggles or loss in your life, but it can also be a time when you find empowering strength in yourself that you didn't know you had. Above all, it is a time when your deepest, most authentic Self can start to emerge and be reborn anew.
Relationships, social interaction, material resources and emotional balance may be a bit unpredictable or unstable around this time, as Uranus the Awakener sounds a wake-up gong in these areas. You may be more inclined to act out of character, to experiment or be reckless in relationship, social or financial matters, which could be liberating or disturbing, exciting or upsetting. Circumstances or other people might create a situation in which you are forced to respond in an unusual or unfamiliar way. The idea behind this energy is to become more flexible and more open to a broader vision of what is possible in those areas. There may be weak spots in the affected areas which this transit illuminates by creating problems, so that they can be repaired and strengthened, or else broken and released so that new opportunities can come in. Trust the process and keep your eyes open to seeing new truth and insight.
Relationships and interactions are likely to be deep, intense and transformative under this transit. The same goes for your sense of beauty, and your material and financial dealings, which may require you to delve far deeper than usual to discover the truth under the surface of things. You may encounter the dark shadow of your desires – the obscure, secret or unconscious hunger that hides underneath the "politically correct" face you show to the world (and to yourself. This is a challenge to be resolved in some way. It might bring out conflict rooted in envy or jealousy, if someone has something (or someone) that you feel you are entitled to. Or, it might prompt you to reach very deep into your soul to find your inner beauty and value. You may be challenged to develop empathy or empowerment about something that initially seemed undesirable, unforgivable or scary. This transit can show you the problem areas that need to be transformed and healed. And seeing these more clearly can be a catharsis that sets that transformative healing in motion.
Fire meets Fire during this transit! Physical and emotional energy tends to run high and hot. This transit is great for doing work that requires a creative, dramatic, courageous or confident focus. This is also very playful energy that spurs you to throw off inhibition and express your most brilliant self. Sexual energy can be aroused, as well as anger or aggression. Assertiveness may emerge as more confident, edgy and dramatic than usual. If these emotions are based on defensiveness, lack of self-esteem or automatic reactions to unconscious assumptions, your effect could go overboard and come across as arrogant or sensationalist. On the other hand, if you tend to be a "shrinking violet" and find it hard to express yourself openly, this transit could provide some courage, inspiration and motivation to help you break free. To make the most of this transit, find ways to bring out your playful, creative, expressive side.

Happy Solar Return to all Libras! While the Sun is in Libra, it brings experiences into our lives that focus us in the areas of love, close relationships, one-on-one interaction, diplomacy, negotiation, strategy, fairness, equilibrium, balance, harmony and beauty. This time also marks the point of equal balance between day and night – the Autumnal Equinox. In the Northern Hemisphere, the nights now become longer than the days, and in the Southern Hemisphere, the days become longer than the nights, until the December Solstice. Balance is the key concept here! What is out of balance in your life? How can you negotiate or strategize to bring that area of your life back into harmony? Libra encourages you to balance your life in diplomatic, discreet, "win-win" ways. But if that's not possible, it will do it aggressively (creating conflict in order to break the stalemate of the imbalance) or manipulatively (people-pleasing to co-dependently get its way). Thus, Libra is known as both the peace-maker and the war-maker. If you find yourself instinctively trying to smooth out conflict – or instigate it! – take a step back and ask yourself if that is your best choice in the situation. Just don't get stuck in Libran indecision! Make your choice and then see if it brings what you want.
This is a very high energy time, although not necessarily predictable or reliable. Your energy may come in spurts or in response to situations that don't normally affect you very much. You may find an upsurge of daring and confidence that seem to come out of nowhere. Or your sexual desire might suddenly come alive. This transit can inspire motivation that is spontaneous, sudden or unexpected. It might make your physical or emotional energy fluctuate or feel a bit "wired." However, it can also give a burst of courage and drive that can propel you out of a rut or inspire you to break free of limitations. Freedom, liberation and asserting your individuality are key areas that can ignite this energy. You might also find yourself involved in group activities, possibly in a leadership role or in a way that your ideas have a greater effect than usual on others.
Mercury glides into Libra, bringing awareness and new ideas about your style of interaction and how you communicate with others. It may be easier to speak (and listen) with gentleness, fairness and diplomacy during this time. Thoughts, ideas, communication and negotiation could reach a state of increased balance and harmony, and you may be especially sensitive to other people and your environment. You could be more motivated to balance criticism or anger with gentleness and diplomacy. On the other hand, interaction could also become a carefully crafted game in which truth, honesty and facts are replaced by manipulative strategy and "white lies" designed to avoid hurt feelings. Indecision and "fence sitting" are possible under this transit, since you are able than usual to see many different sides of a situation. It might help to bounce your ideas and thoughts off someone who can be a good sounding board and give you feedback. It may be easier now to reach a win-win solution to conflicts, which is fair to all concerned – but be careful you don't make incorrect or self-serving assumptions about what the other side wants.
This transit brings an encounter with the Awakener! This could come in the form of another person or outside situation that shakes you out of your habitual routine and pushes you to try a new approach to your situation. Life may be very unpredictable right now, requiring you to be spontaneous, innovative or independent in the way you respond to it. This could be stressful or exciting! It is actually showing you a new path in the darkness, like a lightening flash in the night. If you feel startled or caught off guard, or confused about what to do next, find your internal centre and try to be open to what the situation is illuminating for you. You now have a chance to shed some old habits and ways that you are stuck, if you can stay centered in the middle of the whirlwind. You may experience revelations – that "ah-ha!!" feeling – which could open up new possibilities and opportunities for you. However, it might feel like you have little choice but to try these new things (rather than freely choosing them). You could find yourself reacting to others with a powerful impulse to throw off the shackles of anything that feels restrictive, to reclaim your independence – although this could also be motivated by a fear of commitment or responsibility too. It is wise to check your own inner motives, feelings and assumptions before automatically dismissing, rejecting or rebelling against other people.
This is a wakeup call! You are asked to open your mind so that you can see something about your life, yourself or your situation that has eluded you until now. It might be a shocking revelation that changes your whole perspective...or it might also be a delightful surprise that adds a new dimension you hadn't thought of. However it manifests, you are in a position to see your situation more clearly and objectively – although this can also make it seem like this energy is outside of you and happening TO you. However, if you look closely inside yourself, you may see thoughts, perceptions and impressions that correspond to the external events and participate in the interchange. Emails, Internet chats, and interaction with technology may be part of this transit as well. Communication may be a bit erratic or unpredictable, so be careful not to speak thoughtlessly or carelessly. However, you may find that words and perceptions come to you intuitively and spontaneously.
