Full Moon in Virgo ~ Revisioning

Virgo is a practical Earth sign, adaptable and dexterous as it is ruled by Mercury. Under Virgo’s critical eye, details come into sharp focus.

As this sign opposes spiritual Pisces, the urge is to create heaven on Earth. Virgo is the humble apprentice, applying the teachings of their master on a day to day basis. Virgo is also the skilled seamstress, a nurse or a volunteer digging out toilets in a ravaged land.

Instinctively there is a need to be of service. With Virgo at work, we want to make improvements. We hone skills, jiggle the rota and analyse data. We’re not looking for praise or accolades. Our satisfaction comes from a job well done, greater efficiency and better health.

Moon opp Sun and Neptune

This Full Moon in Virgo however, has her work cut out for her as she opposes both the Sun and Neptune in Pisces (180°). The Moon-Sun opposition sets the conscious mind at odds with the unconscious and shadow material can be projected on others.

The Moon-Neptune opposition is slippery, reflecting only what we want to see. Some may take advantage of Virgo’s natural desire to help, hoodwinking us into giving more than we have to give. It’s important that we remain discerning, carefully choosing who needs our help and where our energies would be most effectively placed.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
~ Alan W. Watts

There are six bodies swimming with the Fishes – Sun, Mercury, Venus, Neptune, Chiron and asteroid Juno, all in Pisces. With Mercury, the ruler of this Virgo lunation amongst them, it could feel like everything we touch just flows through our fingers. It’s hard to contain and difficult to organise. We could also feel intellectually compromised as a lack of planets in Air signs makes it hard to think. What’s more, the atmosphere is super-sensitive which is challenging for the no-nonsense Virgo Moon.

In Pisces our guard is down. We’re soft and malleable, changeable, utterly ruled by a swell of emotion. And Virgo doesn’t know what to do with it. Instinctively she wants to put it all in order but there’s so much that feels out of place that we feel in danger of being overwhelmed.

Uranus sqq Moon and ssq Sun

Secretly, the Virgo Moon could dream of emulating Mickey Mouse in the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, clicking her fingers to magic the mess away. The Moon’s sesquiquadrate to wired Uranus (135°) could play on Virgo’s sensitive nerves. Change is possible, but we can’t do it all at once. New techniques and methods may be needed but we can’t make them work immediately.

The great sea of the collective unconscious is surging. In the waters of Pisces, we want unity and connection. The urge is to merge and to live together in sweet heavenly harmony. In this sign we feel each other’s sorrow. Compassion flows and we begin to envision ideal scenarios to ease suffering and promote cohesion.

But Mercury's square aspect to angry Mars in far-sighted Sagittarius (90°) suggests the problem is that not everyone has the same vision. Mars is currently travelling with asteroid Vesta; whose action is to concentrate. Some may be passionately devoted to their philosophy and on a crusade to keep the light of their belief alive.

Be creative while inventing ideas,
but be disciplined while implementing them.
~ Amit Kalantri

Thankfully we do have an anchor, a rock to cling to in the maelstrom. The Full Moon trines sensible Saturn in Capricorn (120°). Saturn reminds us that we can take it slow. We don’t have to resolve everything at once.

Saturn trine Moon, sextile Sun

If we feel lost, all we need to do is to touch base with something real and tangible. Focusing on the practicalities, something Virgo is good at anyway, will help to channel the rising tide of emotions into something constructive.

We can change the rules of how we work. We can take on the authorities. We can speak to the boss or the government agency involved. We can support a grassroots project or simply get our own house in order so that we have time and energy available to deal with wider problems.

If health is suffering, we can engage the help of an expert. If lack of skill or information is holding us back, we can ask for guidance. We can eat clean, Hoover the house or take a training course. It’s about being responsible and accountable, climbing the mountain one step at a time. It’s about finishing what we started.

Mercury sqr Mars/Vesta, sxt Pluto

Mercury’s conjunctions to Venus and Chiron shows that speaking from the heart can go a long way towards addressing the wounds between us. These three bodies all trine wise Jupiter in Scorpio (120°) as well, so talking about what hurts builds bridges and deepens bonds.

The Mercury-Pluto sextile (60°) invites us to speak the truth, to talk about the hard stuff. There is also the potential to channel the whisper of our intuition into something that has real power to change the structure of our lives.

We can't control on how each day will fall, but we can control how we fall into each day. Learn to make adjustments to match the circumstances.
~ Anthony Liccione

Feb.28-Mar.09 – Mercury, Venus, Chiron conjunction and parallel (27° of Pisces)

There's a fascinating little dance going on for a few weeks, mostly in March, between 3 planets (okay, 2 planets and a centaur/asteroid). Mercury, Venus and Chiron are fused together by longitude on March 4th, just 4 minutes of arc apart. Besides being conjunct, they also move in and out of being parallel and contra-parallel to each other by declination, as well as Mercury and Venus crossing over the equator (0° declination) through this time. Slow-moving Chiron also crisscrossed over the equator from 2014-2016 and remains just 2° from it still. And to cap it all off, Mercury and Venus cross into Aries on March 6th, with Chiron close behind and making his entrance into Aries on Apr.17.

So, there's a lot going on with these three in early March! See the diagram below for the timeline of the conjunctions and parallels.

A planet crossing the equator by declination is interpreted like it's hitting the Reset button. There's a shift that pushes the energy in a new or modified direction, either making a fresh start or breathing new life into its energy's momentum. And when planets are conjunct, they intertwine their energies to generate something new which unfolds over the next several weeks, months or years, depending on the planets involved.

In this case, a cosmic tapestry is being woven with threads from Mercury, Venus and Chiron. Mercury brings strong blue thread for intellect, communication, awareness and intuitive thinking. Venus contributes silky pink embroidery thread for creativity, pleasure, and the appreciation and expression of beauty. Chiron supplies a tangled-up ball of rough, homespun, multi-coloured yarn that must be unraveled, unknotted and sorted before it can be used to create something new.

Together, they create a fabric that you can wear to express yourself, hide behind, project a façade of who you want to be or wish you were, or just have fun with it! Mercury's wit and playfulness combine with Venus' creativity and beauty, which Chiron can apply to hidden wounds like a healing ritual. By being aware and open-minded about the world around you that pushes your buttons, your observations can bring renewal to how you can deal with those sensitive spots. And by being willing to see both side of the situation, perspectives of all concerned, you can realize a new perspective of your own that illuminates a new path out of frustration, pain and discouragement.

On the other hand, you might find you get stuck in the less constructive side of these energies. You might find you're unable to make a clear, confident choice in some situation because all options seem equally disappointing – six of one, half dozen of the other, no way to come out ahead. It's possible that you "can't get there from here" and for now, need to find a way to do what you can while accepting that the outcome you're hoping for can't happen. You can lower your expectations without lowering your self-esteem because you didn't succeed as you'd hoped. This kind of self-supporting acceptance can get you through a difficult situation beyond which you can make a fresh start in a new direction.

The table below shows the dates for the conjunctions and parallels of Merury, Venus and Chiron, as well as when the conjunctions are within a 8° or 1° orb. Additionally, it shows when Mercury and Venus move into Aries, and cross the equator by declination.

Table of dates for Mercury-Venus-Chiron conjunctions and parallels

Mar.02 – Mercury trine Jupiter (23:09 of Pisces/Scorpio)  (Mar.03 in AU)

This transit can make you quite talkative and flooded with ideas, along with those around you. Your stream of consciousness can flow abundantly with optimism and visionary possibilities. Write down your best ideas for later development, since you may be having too much fun now playing with ideas to want to stop and make them manifest just yet. Your outlook is usually optimistic and open-minded under this transit, although it might simply neutralize an already pessimistic frame of mind. You are likely to be more open to spiritual or philosophical perspectives, being more able to see yourself as part of something greater than yourself. You might even find that luck comes your way because you are more receptive to opportunities and possibilities.

Mar.04 – Sun conjunct Neptune (13:55 of Pisces)  (Mar.05 in AU)

This can be a time of great creative ability by taking unfamiliar or little-used sources of inspiration and channelling them into self-expression. This may or may not be "creative" in the artistic sense of the word, but definitely can involve taking an inspired approach to problems and challenges. It is a great time to be romantic, creative, intuitive/psychic or spiritual. Just remember that inspiration still means you have to work for the results. Don't confuse intuition with being able to take divine intervention for granted. You may experience profound faith in the bountiful blessings of the Universe under this transit, but don't just assume you'll be granted everything you wish for. What you pick up from others and your environment can also become mixed up with your own wishful thinking, making it hard to tell where you stop and the rest of the world begins. However, hope, optimism and imagination spring eternal. Your sense of self can become infused with a sense of vision and having a mission, feeling that you are truly a Child of the Universe. Enjoy it while it lasts, as this transit only lasts a few days, but do a careful reality check before you act on the magical possibilities before you.

Mar.04 – Mercury conjunct Venus (27:12 of Pisces)  (Mar.05 in AU)

Social connections, diplomatic communication and receptive awareness mark this transit. It can be a great time to negotiate contracts or agreements because the communication can usually flow easily. Focus your awareness on achieving a mutual balance between you and the other person. A win-win solution is especially easy to achieve now – so much so, in fact, that it might be tempting to only say what you think the other person wants to hear (which may or may not be wise). This can also be a time of appreciating and expressing beauty, pleasure and sensuality. If there's someone you want to get closer to (in terms of romance, friendship, business, partnership, or even an adversary!), talking gently and listening receptively can be the key that unlocks the door. You may also get new creative ideas from your interactions with people or from observing them.

This is the first pass of Mercury conjunct Venus. (Mar.04 and Mar.20) In this first pass, Mercury is moving very fast and overtakes the normally-slower Venus. However, in the second pass on Mar.20, Mercury has slowed down and is about to turn retrograde and Venus overtakes Mercury. They don't meet again until Oct.15. Meanwhile, during this first pass when Mercury is the faster of the two, your intuition, awareness and words may sprint freely from one idea to the next. This conjunction is full of artistic, creative and strategic potential, and your thoughts, expression and communication of that potential may work best when you focus on what you desire and then let your mind figure out the steps to make it happen.

This transit is part of the Mercury-Venus-Chiron conjunction/parallel sequence – see Feb.28-Mar.09, above.

Mar.04 – Mercury conjunct Chiron (27:28 of Pisces)  (Mar.05 in AU)

Words can wound, but they can also heal. This transit may bring new awareness of the ways that you need to heal...and perhaps also the ways that you wound yourself or others, especially through thoughts, words and attitudes. You might become aware of harming yourself through negative self-talk or harsh self-criticism. Or, you might expect rigid perfection of yourself and forget that you are a multi-dimensional being who is, by your human nature, inconsistent and fallible. Your mental focus or attitude might have a sharp edge to it that is harsh, or you may encounter harsh attitudes from someone else that are hurtful, perhaps without meaning to be. Words and thoughts can be powerful tools. By reframing the message or situation in a different way, it is possible to turn hurt into healing and ignorance into wisdom. For example, it may help to eliminate either-or thinking by accepting that paradoxes and contradictions exist and may not have to be fully resolved for you to find a workable balance within them. By adopting a bit of a philosophical attitude, you may find it takes some of the pressure off the need for everything to fit together perfectly, which can leave some breathing room for everyone involved to be human.

This transit is part of the Mercury-Venus-Chiron conjunction/parallel sequence – see Feb.28-Mar.09, above.

Mar.04 – Venus conjunct Chiron (27:28 of Pisces)  (Feb.05 in AU)

Unresolved problems and old wounds in relationships and finances may be in the foreground now, with potential for a new beginning and healing. However, in order to heal something, it is first necessary to become more aware of what is out of balance, which can make a situation seem to get worse before it gets better. You have the ability to wound those close to you, as well as to bring healing, as you explore what is and isn't working in your relationships. It is also a time when your approach to finances and resources may require that you face some hard realities that may not be easily or quickly resolved, but dealing with any problems will give you the chance to achieve a new balance. This is especially true when it comes to the ways that you see your physical resources as a reflection of your self-worth, and the relationships in your life as a reflection of your lovability. These issues may become aggravated under this transit, but ultimately this is meant to increase your awareness of these issues so that you can start to heal them in new ways.

This transit is part of the Mercury-Venus-Chiron conjunction/parallel sequence – see Feb.28-Mar.09, above.

Mar.06 – Mercury enters Aries (until May.13)  (Mar.05 in HAST, AKST, PST)

Directness of speech, fast perceptions and an attitude of "just do it" mark this transit. While Mercury sprints through Aries, you may feel the impulse to cut through and get to the point in conversations and other forms of communication. Body language speaks loudly now, as do actions. At its best, this transit can help words, awareness and insight to arise spontaneously, combined with the courage to express them. On the other hand, you could also say things out of anger, impatience or impulse that you later regret. It may be a time when you'd rather cut to the chase – acknowledge things and move on – rather than hang around to process the details. It's a great time to spin ideas that can be developed later. It is also a good time to think independently and follow your thoughts into new perspectives.

Mercury stays in Aries an unusually long time—9.5 weeks!—because it will go retrograde in Aries from Mar.22 to Apr.15.

This transit is part of the Mercury-Venus-Chiron conjunction/parallel sequence – see Feb.28-Mar.09, above.

Mar.06 – Venus enters Aries (until Mar.31)  (Mar.07 in AU)

Your style of handling relationships, finances, resources and values now take on an attitude of assertiveness, directness and the pursuit of freedom and independence. Impulse buying may be a stronger temptation than usual, so be sure you can afford whatever it is! Your way of interacting may be somewhat more direct, open or flirtatious during this transit. You may have opportunities to acquire money quickly and casually...and spend it too! You may also be more open to trying new things in the areas of finances, relationships, interactions and your values. Trying out new ideas can take you into uncharted territory...which may or may not be welcome depending on how comfortable you are with change. But this still may be just what you need to get you out of a rut in the affected areas. This can also be a good time to celebrate and appreciate yourself just as you are, as a unique individual.

This transit is part of the Mercury-Venus-Chiron conjunction/parallel sequence – see Feb.28-Mar.09, above.

Mar.08 – Mercury enters the Shadow (04:46 of Aries; until May.03)  (May.09 in NST, UK, AU)   ("What's the Shadow?"  Read my articles about Retrograde Cycles.  Read my article about Mercury Retrograde.)

Mercury is now "in the Shadow" – the area of Zodiac where it will later go retrograde in about 2½ weeks time. During its retrograde cycle, Mercury travels through the same span of the Zodiac three times (called the Shadow). The first time through, it is going in direct motion (moving forward), then retrograde (looks like it's going backwards), and then direct again. This means there is a more extensive process of development and change involved with things that Mercury influences—ideas, thoughts, frame of mind and mental focus. It also concerns the collection, exchange, analysis and organisation of information. All forms of communication are also affected. This includes not just talking, but also email and snail mail, the Internet, the media in general, books and magazines, as well as public transit (buses, trains, etc.) and neighbourhoods.

The situations developing over the next couple of weeks (leading up to when Mercury actually goes retrograde) will likely require further research, deeper consideration and adjustments to unexpected discoveries over the next couple of months. Expect changes in your plans, increasingly disrupted communication, and new information coming to light that may not fit conveniently into your plans. It's wise to leave lots of extra time to do things, to plan future projects and get to wherever you're going. Patience is a valuable quality during this time. If you must make important decisions during this time, try to build some flexibility into your plans to allow for later changes—or if possible, you may want to delay final or irrevocable decisions until well after Mercury goes direct.

Here are the key dates of this Mercury cycle (for North American Eastern Time):

Mar.08 – Jupiter Stationary Retrograde (23:13 of Scorpio; until Jul.10)  (Mar.09 in AST, NST, UK, AU)  ("What's a Station?"  "What does Retrograde mean?"  Read more about Retrograde planets.)

For up to a week before and after this date (while Jupiter is moving very slowly and stopped during the station), you may experience an increase in idealism, longing or inspiration. Your opinions, beliefs and assumptions may come under question, as your understanding of life and the world around you now requires further study. While Jupiter is retrograde over the next five months, you may have to re-examine your assumptions, attitudes, biases and judgments about one or more situations. It can be a time to gather more knowledge and look at things from a different perspective, which can change your interpretation of events.

Right now at the station there is the turning point, which might inspire you to explore already-known territory in a new way, or it could disrupt your journey because your map of the territory isn't accurate or up-to-date. This especially applies to situations that have been developing in the last three months (since Jupiter entered the shadow). Allow yourself to be open to new possibilities emerging gradually out of old situations. There is a deeper understanding that can result from exploring things from a different perspective and questioning what you think you know. That which is known and familiar may seem strangely irrelevant or foreign for a while, yet will eventually become integrated and understood again after Jupiter goes direct in five months.

Mar.11 – North America moves ahead to Daylight Saving Time

If you live in Canada, United States, the Caribbean or some areas of Central and South America, and if your region observes Daylight Saving Time, it's time to move your clocks one hour FORWARD. If you're not sure if this applies to you, check the change dates for your location on DateAndTime.com.

Mar.11 – Mercury square Saturn (7:59 of Aries/Capricorn)  (Mar.10 in HAST, AKST)

Your thoughts, ideas and communication need to become structured, rational and discreet, although this may not be easy to achieve. You may have to work extra hard to get your point across now, since others might be resistant to your ideas or may not be familiar with the basic concepts. It is a time to be clear, objective and down-to-earth in your communication and thinking, but equally important to do this without going overboard and becoming rigid, autocratic or over-cautious. If you find yourself stuck in a "glass half empty" frame of mind, you might be sagging under the weight of melancholy ...Or, it might mean you are coming to terms with some hard realities and decisions and feeling the gravity of the implications. But also check to be sure you're not taking yourself and your situation too seriously. By applying your best efforts, this can be a very productive time, especially with anything involving communication, writing, organising or logic.

This is the first of 3 passes of this transit: Mar.11, Apr.05, Apr.25.

Mar.11 – Mars trine Uranus (26:24 of Sagittarius/Aries)

This is a very high energy time, although not necessarily predictable or reliable. Your energy may come in spurts or in response to situations that don't normally affect you very much. You may find an upsurge of daring and confidence that seem to come out of nowhere. Or your sexual desire might suddenly come alive. This transit can inspire motivation that is spontaneous, sudden or unexpected. It might make your physical or emotional energy fluctuate or feel a bit "wired." However, it can also give a burst of courage and drive that can propel you out of a rut or inspire you to break free of limitations. Freedom, liberation and asserting your individuality are key areas that can ignite this energy. You might also find yourself involved in group activities, possibly in a leadership role or in a way that your ideas have a greater effect than usual on others.

Mar.11 – Sun sextile Pluto (20:51 of Pisces/Capricorn)

Your sense of purpose is potentially strong now, being able to tap into a deeper level of energy and determination. Your personality may be more forceful now, which can be great if you need to make a strong impression but perhaps not so much in situations requiring delicacy or subtlety. You have greater ability to see below the surface of things now, although it may not be as easy to put it all together and understand what it all means. It can be possible to unearth secrets or get at the core of unconscious patterns (yours and others'). However, you'll have to work to harvest the fruit of these potentials, and some of the insights and benefits may not become apparent until later.

Mar.13 – Venus square Saturn (08:07 of Aries/Capricorn)

Finances, relationships, social contacts and/or pleasures may seem blocked or require extra effort right now. Manifesting your desires may require added hard work, but this struggle could also bring you closer to your goals. It may feel like there is a huge rock blocking your path that keeps you from fulfilling your heart's desire. It may be necessary to face some difficult aspect of your situation before it is possible to know how to proceed. This is ultimately a problem to be solved by confronting that which is unrealistic, unworkable, or just not in your best interest. This can also be a time when you arrive at a crossroads and must make some firm choices, or when circumstances might force you to change your direction. This transit can make your choice clear, although it might not be the one you hoped for.

Mar.13 – Sun trine Jupiter (23:11 of Pisces/Scorpio)  (Mar.14 in AU)

This is a time when your understanding of the Big Picture and your place within it can click into place. As a result, your confidence and self-esteem can be quite high right now. Your ability to see opportunities and possibilities more clearly can produce an experience of being "lucky." Your insight into life and the world around you may be especially bright, optimistic and inspired. This is a "feel-good" transit, when your sense of self can seem to expand and become free. You may feel especially connected to spiritual energy during this time, finding new meaning in your live and the events that unfold around you. Self-confidence can run high now, and you could feel inspired to fight for justice or some cause. At the same time, there is a chance that all this self-assurance and "knowing" could go overboard into over-confidence, dogmatism or over-indulgence if it's not grounded in realism and humility. Just use your best judgment and enjoy this warm, shining energy!

Mar.14 – Mars square Chiron (28:01 of Sagittarius/Pisces)  (Mar.13 in HAST, AKDT, PDT)

It may be time to confront issues in your life that involve how/why you get hurt by others, how you yourself hurt others, and how healing can take place in either of these situations. Your awareness of this may due to a conflict in your life, but this can be a valuable learning experience for you, more-so than usual. Part of the problem may be that you need to tread your own path but are avoiding this for whatever reasons – perhaps circumstances compel you to satisfy others' expectations, or perhaps you are still struggling to muster the courage to find and walk your own path. Whatever the reasons, this transit may give you a push that will help to steer you in a healing direction, possibly by showing you how and why the path you have been on does not lead to where you want to go. If you start to feel overwhelmed, take some time out from the stress to get re-centered and grounded.

Mar.16 – Mercury Direct trine North Lunar Node (14:23 of Aries/Leo)  (Mar.17 in AU)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

Today, and up to a couple of days before and after, things can feel like they're starting to make sense. What you read, hear and observe may seem more obvious and your ability to put this into words could flow more easily. You might identify and figure out how to utilize the tools, skills, assets and ideas that could bring you further down the road toward whatever destination you're pointed toward. However, a reality check about how wise it might be to act on these ideas and benefits is still a good idea. Write down good ideas to follow up with later.

This is the first of 3 passes of this transit: Mar.16, Mar.30, Apr.27.

Mar.16 – Mars goes Out of Bounds (29:30 Sagittarius to 11:53 Capricorn; OOB until Apr.07)  (Mar.17 in AU)   ("What does Out of Bounds mean?"   "What is Declination?")

Mars goes Out of Bounds (OOB) for 3 weeks. During that time you might encounter new experiences related to courage, aggression or taking action. For example, you may find you are seized with inspiration to champion a cause, or you might decide that now is the time to do something you've been hesitating about for a while and were just waiting for the right moment.

There is always the less constructive side of Mars to watch for, as well. For instance, bold action could become reckless if it's not balanced with wisdom, realistic expectations and awareness of the consequences that you might have to live with afterwards. Anger and frustration could flare up more easily or intensely than usual, which is probably best expressed in constructive ways that don't leave ashes and ruins behind you.

Your instincts could be finely tuned during this time, picking up on distant or subtle signals and relaying these to your impulses which result in doing things without a lot of conscious forethought. This can feel exciting or energizing, but remember that you will still have to live with the results, so if you find this is creating problems it might be best to slow things down a bit so you can consider your best course of action before actually doing it.

You might not notice much of an effect in yourself – not everyone is attuned to the OOB energy. However, you could pick up a high Mars energy in others around you, which may provoke a lot of reaction in yourself. Or, your experience of this Mars energy might feel more like a subtle pressure that you will need to tune into gradually in order to bring it into clear focus.
