I thought about the relentless thought-processing,
soul-devouring machine that is my brain,
and wondered how on earth I was ever going to
master it. Then I remembered that line from Jaws
and couldn't help smiling:

Jun.13 – NEW MOON in GEMINI (22:44 of Gemini)

What can one say about Gemini? Being the sign of ideas, thoughts and communication, we really should say something, right?

We may find doing so a bit trickier than we expect. And for that we can blame Saturn and Chiron. And Mars. And Pluto. And even Mercury himself, the planetary rascal in charge of Gemini.

But let us speak first of Gemini's gifts. This sign is about gathering ideas and sharing thoughts with others. The essence of Gemini is the part of us that is a writer, a teacher, a perpetual student of life. The part that loves to talk, chit-chat, discuss, debate, argue and converse.

Like an adorable ferret, Gemini energy is naturally playful, driven by curiosity and loves to laugh. The Gemini part of you enjoys a witty joke, quickly sees the humourous side of a situation, and admires forms of communication that reveal new ideas and insights.

Gemini's path is to learn—period. Learn as much as you can. Gather as much information as you can. Collect words that help you talk about what you're learning and integrate that into what you already know. Share and exchange ideas until you run out of words. Store it in a fluid database where you can access it at will, be it through free association or logical pathways.

The mind can go in a thousand directions, but on this beautiful path, I walk in peace. With each step, the wind blows. With each step, a flower blooms.
~ Thich Nhat Hanh

In the process of accumulating and assimilating all that data, awareness begins to grow. You become self-aware, you notice the world around you more, and new information resonates with data already stored and becomes easier to recognize and absorb. Gemini being an Air sign, it's as if you become sensitized to the smells, temperature and movement of the air around you, and thereby develop awareness of your own body.

As a result, people with Gemini or Mercury prominent in their chart are frequently found near books, libraries and other information media. And when they're not inhaling ideas, they're usually exhaling them in the form of writing, lecturing, debating, conversing and other means of communication.

What doesn't come as easily to Airy Gemini are the other elements. Although Air is most compatible with Fire, Air isn't looking to ascend to the heavens through a bonfire of passion, but to travel like the wind from one idea to another.

Earth is hard—literally and figuratively! Air can feel weighed down when it has to carry and make manifest all those breezy ideas. That said, Air combined with Earth—communication with specifics and pointed facts—can have a strong impact, like sandblasting obstacles out of the way. However, doing so, Air tends to lose some of its flexibility; its freedom to explore the vast open spaces between specifics

Water is another difficult element for Air to work with. A little moisture is a good thing, since without it the air—and our mental outlook—become a bit too dry and cutting, overly objective, and lacking in empathy. However, an abundance of feelings, sensitivity and emotions can also slow down the Airy freedom that prefers to fly above it all. Like a humid day, if it's hot then the humidity increases the heat, making it hard to do much other than be as still as possible. And if the air is cold, the humidity makes the air feel clammy and damp.

On one hand, Air and Water do not always bring a pleasant experience, and we may become somewhat paralyzed by worry, depression or lethargy. However, it is also a very imaginative combination that plumps up and encourages both our expression and appreciation of creative endeavours. Their combined energies can also turn up the volume on intuitive perceptions.

A man's mind is stretched by a new idea or sensation,
and never shrinks back to its former dimensions.
~ Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr., Autocrat of the Breakfast Table

These elemental distinctions play an important role in the New Moon chart since they become important factors in its energy.

Mercury is the planetary ruler of the Gemini New Moon, and his experiences permeate the New Moon energy. For starters, Mercury is in Cancer, a Water sign, which turns up the humidity/feeling level of the Airy Gemini Moon. This enhances a sense of empathy, caring and personal impact, so we are likely to have not just observations but also some feelings about what happens during the upcoming 4-week lunar cycle. As a result, thinking objectively and dispassionately about our events and experiences may not come as easily as it could.

Mercury and Moon in Mutual Reception

Adding to this, for better or worse, is that the Moon and Mercury are in Mutual Reception (they're in the sign that the other rules: Mercury in Cancer and Moon in Gemini, in this case). This emphasizes the feeling, intuitive, creative expression of the mind and the ability to analyze, objectify and detach from emotions.

Mercury is opposite Saturn in Capricorn. This Earth sign and its ruler cast a strong shadow that seeks to distinguish fact from fiction, what we want from what we actually require, and what we hope for versus the reality we must deal with. Saturn encourages a more objective, mature and serious approach, both in terms of how we respond to the world around us and what we decide to do with/about how we feel about it.

Mercury is now Out of Bounds (OOB from June 6-24). Your hunger for information, insight and clarity may be bored with the same-old-same-old ways of knowing, discovering and expressing, and seeking something more exciting, meaningful and emotionally satisfying.

On the other hand, Mercury attains his farthest reach on Jun.15, the same day that Saturn is exactly opposite. So, whatever your mind perceives or is inspired by, as Mercury peaks in declination around the New Moon, could later slip through your fingers like a dream upon waking unless you find a way to bring it back down to earth through a plan to put it into a manifest form.

Your battles inspired me - not the obvious
material battles but those that were fought and won behind your forehead.
~ James Joyce

Mercury is also square Chiron in Aries and is one of the closest aspects in the chart (only 8 minutes of arc away from becoming exact). Complicating this close-orb intensity is the fact that Chiron is a singleton in Fire signs. (That means no other planetary bodies are in a Fire sign, unless we want to get into a million asteroids and miscellaneous bits of space dust. Shall we? Oh, let's not...)

Being a singleton means that Chiron, your Wounded Warrior, is the only archetype currently channelling Fire energy. Therefore, if you want to tap into Fire (enthusiasm, passion, inspiration, vision) you may need to do that by confronting a wounded place inside you. By taking a step along the path of your most difficult struggles, you can liberate some of your suppressed life force. Stay in the struggle.

So, our mental faculties are imbued with personalized feelings, but Saturn insists we must not simply collapse ourselves into what is in our own interest but to also consider what's best for everyone around us too. How to choose the best balance between them? If only we could be set on fire with enthusiasm and passion, and let that blast away the forest of difficult decisions.

T-square pattern - Mercury, Saturn, Chiron

Unfortunately, it's unlikely that we can escape entirely from whatever path lies ahead. Our Inner Wounded Warrior (Chiron in Aries) may remind us that passion and determination can fuel our journey through that forest, but it can't magically transport us to the other side without extra consequences. As a result, our Warrior may feel sad, frustrated, angry, depressed or agitated—or perhaps even doubly determined to bring a flame-thrower anyway and let the sparks fly where they may.

This dilemma is shown in the chart not just by individual aspects between Mercury, Chiron and Saturn, but also the fact that together they form a T-square aspect pattern. It means that sensitive, intuitive Mercury, structured Saturn and passionate Chiron need to work together as a team—not the easiest alliance in the world but together they can be very effective.

This is about the struggle to balance Mercury's imaginative, creative and intuitive perspective with Saturn's societal expectations and ordered organization. It may help to allow yourself to be driven by Chiron's urge to use our woundedness as fuel to break out of the deadlock.

Keep your mind open. The meaning of things lies in how people perceive them. The same thing could mean different meanings to the same people at different times.
~ Roy T. Bennett

The Sun-Moon conjunction (a.k.a. the New Moon) isn't having the easiest time of it either. Mars is tightly sesqui-quadrate (135°), triggering a quick wit and insight, but could also lead to snap decisions made in anger or frustration rather than healthy instinct.

Aspects to the New Moon in Gemini

Pluto is quincunx (150°) the Sun and Moon. This can bring agitation about feeling overwhelmed by forces greater than yourself. But it also encourages you to stay flexible in how you perceive those forces, and to look beyond being overpowered into innovative ways you can become empowered.

Neptune is in the fading residue of a square (90°), being left behind by the Sun and Moon having made their exact aspects to Neptune over 6 degrees ago. You may have experienced an urgent longing, ambiguity and confusion, or disappointment in the last week or so, as the Sun and later the Moon squared Neptune exactly (Jun.07 and Jun.13). Now you face a trickier set of energies that may be about struggling to reconcile those previous feelings.

The mind can calculate, but the spirit yearns, and the heart knows what the heart knows.
~ Stephen King

T-square, Venus, Mars, Uranus, Lunar Nodes

Venus is at 29° of Cancer, and squaring Uranus (90°), both of which could bring some anxiety from feeling a bit scattered or ungrounded in situations where you might prefer a bit more protective nurturing and certainty. At least she is no longer Out of Bounds (OOB from May.05 to Jun.07) which means it's easier to steer relationships of all kinds through more conventional avenues.

On the other hand, Venus is approaching an opposition to Mars (exact on Jun.21, when Venus is in Fiery Leo). We're already feeling this since they are currently contra-parallel by declination (exact Jun.14). Our receptive and impulsive natures may be at odds with each other this month, so a balance must be found that enables us to feed and utilize both sides of our desires. This is likely to be especially powerful, since Mars turns retrograde just 5 days later (Jun.26) and is already gaining in intensity.

Venus, Mars and Uranus form a T-square configuration. Uranus' awakening jolt of insight can move us out of our habitual responses, particularly when it comes to balancing the pleasure and passion, love and desire, diplomacy and force.

This involves the part of us that is assertive and determined to go out and grab what it wants versus the part that prefers to attract and entice the object of our desire in less aggressive, more persuasive ways. Since their opposition takes place across the axis of the Lunar Nodes, this suggests that the receptive path is the better one to lean toward; however, both sides need to be recognized and worked with.

There is little that is playful or easy-going about this New Moon chart, but it's not without its saving graces. For example, Venus is trine Chiron (120°), which can help to connect the Watery Cancer to Chiron's Fire in an easier, positive way. Another example: Mercury is sextile to Uranus (60°) which encourages that OOB Mercury to let go of Saturn's leash and soar through the stratosphere exploring delicious twists of perception. Jupiter and Neptune are also in trine aspect, creating an easy flow between principles and ideals; focused beliefs and our connection to something greater than ourselves.

This Gemini New Moon speaks to us through a complex yet fascinating mixture of energy dynamics. To get the most out of it, listen carefully both internally and externally—even when you feel overwhelmed or confused. To the Gemini part of us, it's all just information to be processed, explored, assimilated, expressed and shared.

I think... if it is true that there are as many minds as there are heads,
then there are as many kinds of love as there are hearts.
~ Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina

Jun.13 – Mercury square Chiron (02:13 of Cancer/Aries)  (Jun.14 in AU)

Your mental focus and perceptions may feel a bit strained right now. You could find yourself locked in a struggle of indecision that stems from a "glass half empty" versus "glass half full" dilemma. It may be difficult to stay objective and evenly balanced in your perspective, but by working with this you could also find a new mental focus that gives you increased clarity. It might be tempting to sink into cynicism as a way to deal with what seems like a no-win situation. On the other hand, this transit could bring your mental perspective to a kind of "healing crisis" that forces you to get a better grip on the ideas, communication and frame of mind that have been problematic for you. Instead of reaching for extremes (hoping this will clarify the path in front of you), it will help more if you can take a few steps back to allow all the conflicting and out-of-sync elements to coexist together – creative paradox. If you have been in denial about something, this could be a turning point that allows you to grapple with the complex reality of your situation.

Jun.13 – Venus enters Leo (until Jul.09)  (Jun.14 in AU)

This can be a very creative time, as Venus' love of beauty combines with Leo's creative flair for the dramatic. Find ways to feel good by making your surroundings and yourself beautiful and reflective of your inner spirit! High fashion and vogue style are "in," and crudeness and ordinariness are out...unless you want to turn them into a fashion statement. ;-) However, it's probably wise not to become so identified with the outer appearance of yourself or others that you lose sight of the person, situation or context that it's all happening in. The aim is to pamper yourself with pleasures that enhance your quality of life, without inflating your ego with synthetic self-esteem and glamour without substance. Relationships, interaction, finances, values and resources all need to include ways to express your identity, valour and "heart." Some light-hearted fun and play can be a good place to start.

Jun.14 – Venus square Uranus (01:26 of Leo/Taurus)  (Jun.15 in ADT, NDT, UK, AU)

Under this transit, you may be tempted by impulse spending, or you might be somewhat erratic in your use of resources. This can result in unpredictable or unstable finances, so double check your bank accounts and credit cards before you draw on them. It is also a time when the way you relate to others (or they to you) could be somewhat inconsistent, fickle or impulsive. If your relationships or financial situation have been struggling with difficulties for a while, this transit could bring a lingering problem to the surface and require attention. On one hand, this could be a welcome breath of fresh air that cuts through the complexity of your problems and puts the cards on the table (despite the stress and conflict that likely triggered it). Or, you might feel resistance to making these changes and instead experience this as a time of unwelcome instability, upset and adjustment. However, this may be a good way to break free of excessive restraint, control or structure, which allows new possibilities to emerge that couldn't do so otherwise.

Jun.15 – Venus trine Chiron (02:15 of Leo/Aries)  (Jun.16 in AU)

Healing and rebalancing are possible now, especially in the areas of relationships, finance, resources and values. Any problems that have persisted in these areas lately could benefit from an influx of helpful and healing resources now. Relationships and interactions of all kinds can benefit now, since it can be easier to see the beauty and value in others whom you might usually dislike or feel ill at ease with (or they with you). Negotiations and strategic efforts to resolve conflicts may go smoothly now, especially when you balance the results in everyone's interests. You may also be able to attract what you need to heal your wounds (physical, psychological, spiritual, etc.). Like it says in the "Serenity Prayer," you may now find it a bit easier to accept that which you cannot change, while finding you make progress with the things you can.

Jun.15 – Mercury opposite Saturn (06:41 of Cancer/Capricorn)  (Jun.16 in UK, AU)

The time has come to face facts. There may be a reality in your life that you've been avoiding, and you need to accept and deal with it. Or, you might have to conform to the expectations of others because there's no other way around it. Or, you could find that your ability to communicate, say what you want to say, or get your point across is harder for a few days. This will pass, but there may be concrete reasons why this might not be the best time to communicate whatever is on your mind. You might feel a bit as if you're being tested, and in some way this could be true. This transit may bring an opportunity to see how much you really know and how skilled you are at using that knowledge. On the other hand, this could be a time when hard work and preparation that you've done for several months could pay off. You may be able to progress to the next step in a project, or to make plans in an organised, concrete and responsible way. For a few days, taking a structured, methodical or factual approach to whatever you're doing may produce the best results.

Jun.17-22 – Grand Trine in Water (9-19° Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)

Grand Trine, Mercury, Jupiter, Neptune

Grand Trine in Water, 2.0! At the Full Moon in Sagittarius (May.29) there was almost the same Grand Trine — a crystalline triangle between Neptune, Jupiter and Venus. This time, Mercury passes through where Venus was, forming another triangular figure with the two planetary rulers of Pisces. After the New Moon in Gemini was such a strong combination of Air and Water, this Grand Trine reconstitutes that combined energy of intuition, creativity and imagination, as well as the potential for worry, depression or projection of emotions onto your otherwise-clear perceptions.

This aspect figure is in effect from around June 17 to 22, although it is closest from June 19 to 20. If you are a creative person or someone who enjoys flights of imagination, do something special during this time to take the most of this free-flowing energy. This could be a tricky time if you tend to let your feelings slant your viewpoint or colour your thoughts in a way that leaves you ecstatic with hope only to be crushed by depression if things don't work out. It might be better to slow down your emotions and reactions long enough to actually see what transpires. In other words, don't jump to conclusions based on what you hope will happen, and avoid assuming the worst based on your fears. Just coast and observe.

Jun.18 – Neptune Stationary Retrograde (16:29 of Pisces; until Nov.24)  (Jun.19 in UK, AU)  ("What's a Station?"  "What does Retrograde mean?"  Read more about Retrograde planets.)

For up to a week before and after this date, you may feel a thick concentration of Neptune energy. This could include vivid dreams and imagination, foggy confusion or fluid intuition. You might experience unusual sensitivity to the people and situations around you. The station could create a turning point in situations that have unfolded over the last few months, especially those in which you need to surrender to something greater than yourself, whether that is the creative process, a stressful situation or the Universe in general. This can be a time when you come to an internal acceptance (or resignation) about what needs to be done in your life. As a result, you might feel a sense of longing, dissatisfaction, disappointment, sadness, depression, fatigue or low energy. Or, you might feel a sense of unburdening relief, inspiration, hopeful possibilities or deep beauty. The next 5-6 months will be a time to probe the spaces in between the facts and the uncertainties – to learn about that force greater than yourself, as well as the (unconscious) part of yourself that longs to merge with it.

Jun.19 – Venus conjunct North Lunar Node (06:31 of Leo)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

Your love, beauty and joy are especially visible to others right now. You are likely to be at your most attractive – both in body and personality. You could become a magnet for what you desire today – just be careful what you ask for, since you might get it! What you attract to you might be material abundance, admiration and appreciation from others, or perhaps a sense of well-being that brings you into a more beautiful balance with those around you. This can also be a time when you begin a new relationship or social contact, or perhaps you begin a journey to make yourself or your world more beautiful, loving and kind. At worst, or if other stressful transits are also in effect, you might also have a tendency to fall into over-indulgence, empty glamour or compulsive craving.

Jun.19 – Mercury trine Jupiter (13:59 of Cancer/Scorpio)

This transit can make you quite talkative and flooded with ideas, along with those around you. Your stream of consciousness can flow abundantly with optimism and visionary possibilities. Write down your best ideas for later development, since you may be having too much fun now playing with ideas to want to stop and make them manifest just yet. Your outlook is usually optimistic and open-minded under this transit, although it might simply neutralize an already pessimistic frame of mind. You are likely to be more open to spiritual or philosophical perspectives, being more able to see yourself as part of something greater than yourself. You might even find that luck comes your way because you are more receptive to opportunities and possibilities.

Jun.20 – Mercury trine Neptune (16:29 of Cancer/Pisces)  (Jun.21 in ADT, NDT, UK, AU)

Your mind is very open to imagination, dreams and compassion under this transit. This can be a very creative time, when ideas flow like a magical river. It can also be easy to get caught up in yearning and fantasizing about your hidden wishes, although it is possible to channel this into creative expression. (e.g., writing poetry, dancing, wistful music, singing in the shower, whatever!) Listening sympathetically to others' problems may come easily now, and you are more likely to get a compassionate response from others about your own problems. However, it may also be difficult to draw clear and firm boundaries with others, since you are more susceptible to the emotional gravity of others. It is ultimately a time for optimism, hope, creativity and intuition, although it's wise to keep at least one foot on the ground.

Jun.21 – HAPPY SOLSTICE! Sun enters Cancer (until Jul.22)

Happy Solar Return to everyone born in the sign of Cancer! When the Sun enters Cancer, it also marks the Summer Solstice (in North America, the UK, Europe and other places in the northern hemisphere; or the Winter Solstice in Australia and other places in the southern hemisphere). This is the time when we all get to cultivate and nurture the Cancer side of our nature. This includes feelings, needs and nurturing instincts, as well as your connection to home and family, and your most primal sense of belonging. To explore this area of your life, think about your family – are you closely connected to your family-of-origin (the one you grew up with), or do you also have a "chosen family" in adulthood? Who is part of your support system (the people you know you can turn to when you need them)? What people, groups, places or experiences satisfy your need for belonging, which everyone has inside them? Cancer is about our distant past (childhood, ancestry, memories) that influences our current behaviour, motives and methods of getting our emotional needs met. Take this time to find new ways to nurture yourself, to share that nurturing with others, and to ensure that you don't give to others at the expense of not getting what you need.

Jun.21 – Venus opposite Mars (09:03 of Leo/Aquarius)  (Jun.22 in AU)

Your receptive, diplomatic side is arguing with your assertive, upfront side. The result can be either a battle of wills between Yin and Yang (yours or others'), or a new creative dynamic that brings both into a new balance. This could manifest in the form of relationship issues, financial struggles, or arguments about control. Or, you might feel it is time to take action with plans that have been percolating for a while, especially related to beauty, love, relationships, money, spending and negotiation. If you're usually more comfortable with Yin energy (receptive, diplomatic, beauty oriented), you might feel unusually sensitive to aggressive or forceful energy from others. At worst, you might feel backed into a corner or even bullied by someone who comes across as angry, pushy or (over)enthusiastic. If you're more at home with Yang energy (assertive, action-oriented, direct), you may feel pressured or manipulated to tone down your energy level to make it more socially acceptable. Either way, this is about finding a new cooperative balance that works for both sides, through compromise, negotiation and conflict resolution.

Jun.23 – Sun sextile Uranus (01:44 of Cancer/Taurus)  (Jun.22 in HAST, AKDT, PDT, MDT)

You are more open than usual to spontaneity, surprises and "flying by the seat of your pants!" Your sense of humour and fun are more finely tuned during this transit, as is your ability to break out of old outworn habits. It's a great time to try new things and experiment with something that's out of character for you. In fact, it may be surprising how easy it is to break out of your usual much so that it's good to be careful not to be too reckless under this transit. Just have fun pushing the envelope! You may also find you want things to be spontaneous and new and out-of-the-ordinary so much that it's hard not to feel restless and dissatisfied with ordinary life right now. But remember that trying to plan spontaneity defeats the purpose of the exercise. And if you are hungering for something new but can't seem to find something satisfying, try digging a little deeper to see what is driving that hunger from inside you. You could find surprising answers.

Jun.23 – Mercury opposite Pluto (20:28 of Cancer/Capricorn)  (Jun.22 in HAST)

This transit brings powerful words and ideas! They require you to strike a balance between personal perceptions and trans-personal implications. Your communication can be more penetrating, forceful or persistent than usual now, and a little will go a long way, so use this ability sparingly and carefully. In the same way, the words and perceptions of others may have a deeper and stronger impact on you than they normally do. This could be a mixed blessing – you may discover some profound insight and psychological truth in what others say to you, but you might also be receiving their unconscious projections too (meaning their perceptions and feedback might say more about them than about you). Deep self-honesty can help you decide what is true and what is being distorted. Avoid reacting on "automatic pilot" and give yourself some mental and psychological breathing room to avoid becoming overwhelmed.

Jun.23 – Sun square Chiron (02:21 of Cancer/Aries)  (Jun.24 in AU)

Your self-confidence and patience may be a bit strained right now, stretched by the urge to break free of chronic constraints. Motivation and self-esteem may seem to sag and suffer from old problems that you thought were resolved. This is probably because you are seeing "the flaws in the system" that are preventing you from getting the results you want. It will help to take a fresh approach to your situation. You may need to let go of what you think the results "should be" or how they should come to you. Be open to getting what you want in a different form than you were expecting. You may have to work extra hard for results now, especially if it means having to find a different route to success. If it seems like a door of opportunity has closed, look for an unexpected advantage or hidden alternative. This could allow you to tap into other opportunities that wouldn't have been possible otherwise.

Jun.24 – Mercury returns from Out of Bounds (was OOB from 15:47 Gemini to 22:21 Cancer; next OOB is Nov.02)   ("What does Out of Bounds mean?"   "What is Declination?")

Mercury has been Out of Bounds (OOB) and now returns within the bounds of the Sun's declination. An in-bounds Mercury is generally easier to work with, where your thoughts, ideas and awareness works more constructively with the world around you. You might find you have new ideas picked up while Mercury was OOB that you now are able to put into practice. If you've felt somewhat liberated by the OOB period, it might be a bit uncomfortable to feel simply "normal" again. On the other hand, if you were feeling a bit ungrounded or out of focus during Mercury's OOB period, coming back in-bounds could feel somewhat reassuring as your brain may find it easier to grapple with ideas and process experiences. Words and thoughts might fit more comfortably into what society regards as "normal" and as such, life may start to feel a bit easier to navigate.

Coming back in bounds can also be a bit of a bumpy landing as that unrestricted energy becomes squeezed back into its usual potency. This is a good time to observe your thoughts, ideas, communication and how you process information, as well as changes in Mercury themes in society around you. For several days before and after this date, pay attention to the things that amplify or cool down your awareness, perceptions and your need to express what you're thinking. Realize that this is an adjustment period, and having some patience with yourself and others can help to smooth and soothe this time.

Alternatively, the re-entry can also be an eventful time when changes in Mercury-related areas can occur. For example, you might feel this is the right time to start—or end—a conversation about things that inspire or aggravate you, or make changes to how and why you express yourself. A shift in how you experience or handle the exchange of ideas and information with others could inspire you to make positive changes in those areas. This might be due to a change in perspective as a result of your experiences while Mercury was OOB.

Jun.25 – Venus square Jupiter (13:40 of Leo/Scorpio)  (Jun.26 in AU)

"Your eyes are bigger than your stomach" (as Mom used to say). That means you are more likely now to over-indulge, especially in the areas of relationships, spending, desires, pleasure and social contact. Your desire for fulfilment and satisfaction may exceed your resources, and you might not even realise it until the bill comes in later (probably under a Saturn transit ;-). You may also find you require more knowledge, understanding, faith, freedom or optimism than you have available, making it tempting to compensate by inflating what you really have. For example, you might want to resort to flattery, manipulation or over-optimism in an effort to make up for a lack of genuine confidence, rapport or preparation. However, this can also be a time when your creativity is running high and you are able to pull rabbits out of your hat on a moment's notice. The problem is that you could over-extend yourself by doing so.

Jun.26 – Mars Stationary Retrograde (09:13 of Aquarius; until Aug.27)  (Jun.27 in AU)  ("What's a Station?"  "What does Retrograde mean?"  Read my article about Mars Retrograde.  Read more about Mars Retrograde.

He's baaaaaack!! Mars now turns retrograde for the next 10 weeks or so, creating a need to reconsider the direction and use of our energy. For a week or more before and after today, your physical energy may be a bit erratic or wonky—here one minute and gone the next; active one minute and lethargic the next. Forward progress that was made over the last couple of months may seem like it has hit a roadblock or forced into an annoying detour. Tempers can flare easily from frustration and trying to push through the obstacles that don't want to budge. This can also trigger old unresolved anger, which might need to be worked through over the coming retrograde period. This might also be a time when you feel a bit depressed or lethargic due to repressed anger, particularly if you find it difficult to own, express or accept anger as a natural emotion.

Although this might sound like a totally negative experience, it doesn't have to be. All that energy can also fuel a time of great productivity and determination. The retrograde period could also be a time of respite from anger, conflict or high stress, as you pull back for a while to coast, regroup and rethink how you want to deal with a stressful situation. It is a time to take stock of what you are investing your energy and ambition in and consider if you are spending your energy wisely. It is a time to evaluate whether your plans and actions are working for you, or whether you need to make some adjustments in your direction, or whether you need to consider a complete change of direction. It is also a time to work hard in preparation for plans that can be put into action after Mars goes direct. Think of it as taking inventory, revising your goals and adjusting your plans for the next two years (until the next Mars retrograde).

Here are the key dates of this Mars cycle (for North American Eastern Time):

Jun.27 – Sun opposite Saturn (05:51 of Cancer/Capricorn)

You may be obligated to fulfil the expectations of others or of society under this transit. A situation or project (which may have begun around 6 months ago) might require that you start to implement the plans and preparation you've been building. Or you might find that problems you've been putting off must now be dealt with. Although you could experience this as stressful or heavy, it can also be a time when you are finally able to move ahead with a project or goal. All commitment requires some degree of limitation and pruning back, since we must choose one path and leave other options behind. This may therefore feel like a time when you are pressured by obligation, necessity or restraint...or it could feel like the rehearsals are finally over and it's time to launch the rocket. If it seems like you're only seeing blocks or obstacles in your way, this might be a reflection of not having done enough preparation (in which case you will need to draw on your experience to solve the problems or deal with the reality in front of you). This can be a time when you reap whatever you have sown in the past (especially the last 6 months), so if your current situation seems negative or punitive, it might be a time when you need to look back over your actions that lead to this and be accountable for past actions and decisions. Whether you are taking the final step to implement your plans or are facing the results of poor past judgment, this can be a time when you are called upon to move forward in your personal growth and maturation. Use it to strengthen your responsibility (response-ability), and don't let fears of inadequacy erode your self-esteem.
