Greetings on the New Moon in Pisces! I have a guest writer for the New Moon article - the delightful Leah Whitehorse who has been featured as a guest writer here before. I'll be back again for the Full Moon in Libra ~ the last of the 5-part series of zero-degree Full Moons since last November. In the meantime, enjoy Leah's article about how to tap into the flow of Pisces energy, and don't forget to check out my Lunar Forecast in the Horoscopes section. Happy Transits!  ~ Wendy

Mar.06 – NEW MOON in PISCES (15:47 of Pisces)

We're floating in the middle of the ocean, drifting, dreaming. There's an abundance of water in the chart but little fire.

The combination suggests that whilst we may be filled with buoyant hopes and longing, there's little inspiration to do anything about it. So, we float, bobbing in a small boat, hands trailing in the water. Sleepy, silent.

And some could find themselves crying, leaking eyes, memories falling back into the collective pool of the unconscious. Salt water stings yet cleanses. Sometimes it's necessary.

Pisces is a sign of compassion and empathy. Turn that kindness on yourself. Hold your hand over your heart. Reassure yourself that you are okay, even if you are lost, in pain or suffering.

Words are, of course, the most powerful drug
used by mankind.
~ Rudyard Kipling

Mercury is still stationary after turning retrograde yesterday on the final or Anaretic degree of Pisces. Anaretic degrees are super sensitive, more so in tender Pisces.

Words now have many layers of meaning, ripples of reflection, undertone, subtext. It's difficult to hear what is said - or trust whether there is some other subliminal message trickling through. It's like our ears are clogged after deep diving, sounds muffled.

Anaretic Mercury is conjunct Chiron, also on a critical degree at 0 Aries. Words can hurt or words can heal - those we say to others and those we say to ourselves. The key is not to suffer in silence.

With Chiron in Aries, we need to take action to find healing. It's hard to do when you are down, depressed and utterly forlorn but take the initiative, reach out. It doesn't matter if you can't see a way forward or find an answer to problems. Trust that you can find your way with a little guidance.

When you reach the end of what you should know, you will be at the beginning of what you should sense.
~ Kahlil Gibran, Sand and Foam

The Moon is conjunct Pisces ruler Neptune, making everything seem like a water colour painting. Lines are blurred, boundaries are blurred. There's a tendency to idealise under Neptune’s influence.

The Moon is also square to Jupiter, emphasising the Jupiter-Neptune square that forms the backdrop to this year's events. Whilst Jupiter can give great faith, combined with Neptune, we could see what we want to see or believe what we want to believe.

The problem is that if we lose touch with reality, we could end up feeling disappointed. Escapism too is an issue, as Jupiter expands upon Neptune's fantasies. Whilst this is the time to pay attention to our imagination and draw on its creative potential, some could find themselves disconnecting, immersed in Netflix, checking out with alcohol or drugs.

Ground yourself. Practice mindfulness. Don't get carried away. As a caution, stomachs are sensitive now too. Pay attention to food hygiene. Be careful with shellfish. Be mindful of foods and medications you already know you have a sensitivity to.

But still, despite the potential difficulties, as the Moon is also conjunct priestess Vesta, there is a highly spiritual tone to this New Moon. It's perfect for focusing on your spiritual path, New Moon rituals, deity dedications, tarot card blessing or just simply tuning in to your soul. Right now, it's important to let go of the noise and distraction of the outside world and go within. Get comfortable with silence.

When words become unclear,
I shall focus with photographs.
When images become inadequate,
I shall be content with silence.
~ Ansel Adams

The Sabian symbol of this lunation is: In the Quiet of Their Study, a Creative Individual Experiences a Flow of Inspiration.

In our busy modern world, often silence is something we rarely experience or actively avoid. Sit in the dark for five minutes to rest your soul or, if that seems too scary, wake up at sunrise and listen to the dawn chorus.

Create space so that you can hear your breath. It's in these times that vivid imagery can appear that puts you in touch with the part of you that is connected to all that is beyond your understanding.

The New Moon forms sextiles to both Mars and Saturn so there is help at hand too. We can become master builders when we listen to our intuition. With discipline, effort and mature leadership, we can breathe life into our dreams. But still, Saturn cautions we must be realistic to gain the best from this hopeful chart. Neptune and Vesta reminds us that we need to focus on what is most meaningful to us.

When one realises one is asleep,
at that moment one is already half-awake.
~ P.D. Ouspensky

Uranus, The Awakener, has just moved into Taurus (just 7.5 hours before the New Moon!) bringing high frequency knowledge down to Earth. Yet, with otherworldly Neptune conjunct the New Moon, this is like waking within a dream. Lucid dreams are extraordinary states of consciousness where you can interact with the dreamscape with full awareness that you are dreaming.

Right now, we need to be open to understanding there are many layers of consciousness. There is much more to reality than we see. Neptune rules all those things that are invisible - ghosts, spirits, Gods, the spiritual thread that binds us all, other dimensions. We are interacting with something beyond the physical realms and sometimes it can be unsettling.

With nothing tangible to draw upon, we could be tempted to say that our experiences aren't real - yet we need to allow for miracles, impossibilities and all those things that go beyond the known world. Transcend your limits.

Practice listening to your intuition, your inner voice; ask questions; be curious; see what you see; hear what you hear; and then act upon what you know to be true. These intuitive powers were given to your soul at birth.

Mar.06 – Sun conjunct Neptune (16:09 of Pisces)  (Mar.07 in UK, AU)

This can be a time of great creative ability by taking unfamiliar or little-used sources of inspiration and channelling them into self-expression. This may or may not be "creative" in the artistic sense of the word, but definitely can involve taking an inspired approach to problems and challenges. It is a great time to be romantic, creative, intuitive/psychic or spiritual. Just remember that inspiration still means you have to work for the results. Don't confuse intuition with being able to take divine intervention for granted. You may experience profound faith in the bountiful blessings of the Universe under this transit, but don't just assume you'll be granted everything you wish for. What you pick up from others and your environment can also become mixed up with your own wishful thinking, making it hard to tell where you stop and the rest of the world begins. However, hope, optimism and imagination spring eternal. Your sense of self can become infused with a sense of vision and having a mission, feeling that you are truly a Child of the Universe. Enjoy it while it lasts, as this transit only lasts a few days, but do a careful reality check before you act on the magical possibilities before you.

Mar.09 – Sun sextile Saturn (18:25 of Pisces/Capricorn)  (Mar.08 in HAST, AKST, PST)

You have an opportunity now to make some progress in obtaining results in your projects, career, ambitions and creative expression. It is possible to tap into a disciplined mindset, which can be used to take some steps toward goals that you're trying to manifest. You are surrounded by potential to achieve this, although it will not simply be handed to you – you will still have to work for it. Your mind and purpose are likely to be clear and strong now, enabling you to be decisive and productive. Leadership, management and organizing abilities are potentially high right now. Asserting your authority in a situation that calls for it can be done successfully, as long as you don't let yourself become rigid or bossy. It can be a good time to learn or practice new skills, or to apply yourself to any kind of serious study. It is also a time when you could formulate some solid plans for future projects or make some progress with current undertakings. Make the most of it!

Mar.10 – North America moves ahead to Daylight Saving Time

If you live in Canada, United States, the Caribbean or some areas of Central and South America, and if your region observes Daylight Saving Time, it's time to move your clocks one hour FORWARD. If you're not sure if this applies to you, check the change dates for your location on DateAndTime.com.

Mar.10 – Mars sextile Neptune (16:17 of Taurus/Pisces)  (Mar.11 in AU)

There is potential for inspired action now. You could achieve a softening or soothing of the blunt force of anger, frustration, confrontation and conflict, without this resulting in powerlessness or passivity. It may be easier to move forward with your plans and intentions based on the power of faith or ideals. It's important to not get lost in those ideals to the point where you lose sight of what's realistic, but this is a time when you may be more inclined to take a leap of faith and say "Oh what the heck!" Your emotional impact on others (or their impact on you) could be greater than is intended or expected, so use this expanded energy wisely.

Mar.13 – Sun sextile Pluto (22:43 of Pisces/Capricorn)  (Mar.14 in AU)

Your sense of purpose is potentially strong now, being able to tap into a deeper level of energy and determination. Your personality may be more forceful now, which can be great if you need to make a strong impression but perhaps not so much in situations requiring delicacy or subtlety. You have greater ability to see below the surface of things now, although it may not be as easy to put it all together and understand what it all means. It can be possible to unearth secrets or get at the core of unconscious patterns (yours and others'). However, you'll have to work to harvest the fruit of these potentials, and some of the insights and benefits may not become apparent until later.

Mar.13 – Sun square Jupiter (23:10 of Pisces/Sagittarius)  (Mar.14 in UK, AU)

You may be inspired to expand far beyond your usual boundaries during this time, although this may or may not work in the way you hope it will. It can be a time of challenge, when you decide that now is the time to move beyond your current horizons and make the ultimate push for something you believe will bring you happiness, fulfilment and prosperity. How successful you are will probably depend on how prepared you are for what comes next. Your judgment and your ability to see things objectively and realistically can be a little "off" during this transit, since your hopes and ideals might distort what is actually possible. It can be easy to overestimate the envisioned results, or you might underestimate the amount of work necessary to sustain your dream and prevent it from being just a flash in the pan. Try to avoid being overconfident and making promises you can't keep (including to yourself).

Mar.14 – Mercury Retrograde trine North Lunar Node (24:50 of Pisces/Cancer)  (Mar.13 in HAST)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

Mercury makes a second pass to trine the North Lunar Node, this time going retrograde. Normally this can be a time when your ideas, thoughts and words seem like they're falling into place, or at least coming more easily. When Mercury is retrograde, this transit could bring some "second thoughts" about events and situations that shed new light in a positive or softer way. In other words, this can be a time when rethinking a difficult situation might reveal an easier way to deal with it or that perhaps you needn't be as concerned as you are. It's also an opportunity to think about how you can re-centre yourself on the path of your fullest potential.

Mar.14 – Mars trine Saturn (18:48 of Pisces/Capricorn)

This is a great time for disciplined action that can produce grounded, specific and stable results. If you have a project that needs to push ahead to the next step, you may find this is a good time to do that. If you want to make progress with your ambitions, goals and plans, this can be a good time to make plans or to take action. You are likely to feel "together," capable and strong, giving you a serious, calm and realistic confidence. It's usually easier to control or restrain your more volatile emotions, and present yourself as someone who is stable and on top of things. This transit can bring sustained physical energy that doesn't burn itself out quickly and can pace itself for lasting endurance. Remember that the effects of this transit typically last only about a week or two, so make the most of it!

Mar.14 – Sun conjunct Mercury Retrograde (24:11 of Pisces)  (Mar.15 in UK, AU)

When the Sun conjoins Mercury Retrograde, there is a new beginning in the areas of awareness, communication, use of information and exchange of ideas. This may or may not be heralded by a recognisable event or experience, although for a day or two your consciousness may shift. Your awareness and mental concentration may take a dip into the unconscious, becoming unusually murky and muddy, or it may rise into ultra-consciousness and become suddenly clear and lucid (afterwards returning to the usual Mercury retrograde fog). A new awareness or perspective on what has unfolded during the retrograde cycle thus far may surface now, or an unworkable attitude or perception of these events may fall apart under the weight of new information. This shift of awareness may be obvious or subtle, sudden or gradual, but this transit marks a turning point in the Mercury retrograde cycle. It also marks a time when mental awareness often goes further underground, for the rest of the retrograde period, making it a little harder to operate objectively and rationally in the outside world. Spend some time in your right-brain, intuitive, non-rational mind, which can coax your mental creativity and inventiveness to the surface.

Here are the key dates of this Mercury cycle (for North American Eastern Time):

Mar.15 – Sun trine North Lunar Node (24:50 of Pisces/Cancer)  (Mar.16 in AU)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

You may feel confident, optimistic and empowered today and a couple of days before and after this date. It can feel like the pieces are falling into place and you can make progress in what you're striving to do in your life right now. And if only because of this added self-confidence, this could indeed happen. Just an added caution, though: even though the lights are green doesn't mean you shouldn't look both ways before moving forward. In other words, a reality check as to the wisdom of what you want to do is still a good idea.

Mar.15 – Mercury Retrograde square Jupiter (23:19 of Pisces/Sagittarius)  (Mar.16 in AU)

You may be seeing the weak links in your knowledge, understanding or beliefs right now. Your ideas and words might seem to fall short of what your mind envisions, or you might be unable to convince others of your point of view. As a result, it can be tempting to over-compensate with more self-confidence, faith or optimism than you actually have. Or, you might give out "too much information" by over-explaining or through nervous rambling. Alternatively, you might encounter someone else who does this and perhaps have a blaming or judgmental reaction to them. This is an opportunity to learn something about how you might jump to conclusions or blame, possibly triggered by a situation that challenges your beliefs, opinions or perspective. To learn more about this part of yourself, try taking some time to think about what is really bothering you or what you really need to say in that situation. There may be a higher truth to be found if you open your mind to something you're reluctant to acknowledge, rather than looking for a "final truth" around which to close it.

Mar.16 – Mercury Retrograde sextile Pluto (22:46 of Pisces/Capricorn)  (Mar.17 in AU)

Penetrating insights and passionate communication are possible under this transit ...although, so is speaking more forcefully than you intend to about things that require a bit of delicacy or discretion. It is also a time when your mental concentration can come together so easily that you become obsessed. You may prefer in-depth discussion to small-talk, and it might feel awkward if you aren't able to explore the depths in your interaction or communication with others. However, you likely have an increased ability to pick up on undercurrents of what's happening around you. This is also a time when you can start to shed and leave behind old worn out perceptions and ways of communicating. You also have an increased ability to take thoughts, ideas and information and transform them into something healing ...or wounding. Choose your words carefully and mindfully. Writing down your thoughts and ideas to capture the energy of this transit can help you gather the deeper qualities.

Mar.16 – Mercury at 0° Declination (22:25 Pisces)  (Mar.17 in AU)  ("What is Declination?"   "What's the Celestial Equator?")

Mercury now crosses the Celestial Equator, which means it is at 0° of Declination (north or south relative to the Celestial Equator). When a planet crosses 0° declination, it's like a reset button is pushed in some way. In the case of Mercury, you might move into a fresh perspective about something. You could gain new information that fills in a piece of the puzzle. Perhaps you need to try a new approach to a problem, or you may discover that what you thought you knew isn't as clear or accurate as you thought.

When Mercury crosses the equator, it is always in Aries or Pisces, Libra or Virgo. The sign colours the reset quality. For example, in Aries, you might get a breakthrough or realization that allows you to move forward in a new direction. In Pisces, you may find your intuitive perceptions are especially strong and offer valuable insight that augments the factual information. In Virgo, you might feel the need to fine-tune your understanding by bringing new details into clearer focus. In Libra, you could make a fresh start in a relationship or clear the air of past assumptions.

What makes this transit especially noteworthy is that Mercury crosses the equator 3 times during its retrograde cycle. So, as Mercury's retrograde journey takes you on a magical mystery tour through Pisces, through dreams and intuition and creativity, you also have a special opportunity to use those qualities to let go of old misconceptions, assumptions and perceptions. As a result, this retrograde could be a time of enchanting imagination and/or considerable confusion, as your mental hold on a logical perspective softens to make room for more intuition, creativity and emotional thoughts.

Make time for things where you can just coast; where you don't have to make decisions or initiate actions or deal with things that require precision. Listen to beautiful music, create or enjoy art, watch sunrises and sunsets, meditate, commune with nature, dance, sing, or just veg out. Just leave room to take a break from having to be "on" all the time.

Here are the key dates of Mercury's declination within the retrograde cycle (dates use North American Eastern Time):

Mar.17 – Mercury Retrograde sextile Mars (21:17 of Pisces/Taurus)  (Mar.18 in ADT, NDT, UK, AU)

This is the second of three passes of this transit, which generally supports forthright communication and finding your assertive voice, if you wish to cultivate that. By now you have a chance to examine your usual mode of communication and may be seeing how it could benefit from improvement. Or, you might have been trying out some new forms of communication or being more outspoken, and might be experiencing the feedback and reactions to this. Perhaps it's a good idea to soften words that are a bit too blunt? Or you might find making a sharper, more specific point will get to the heart of the matter and avoid misunderstandings. This is a good time to try different creative ideas on for size and see which ones bring the results you are aiming for.

Mar.20 – Mars trine Pluto (22:50 of Taurus/Capricorn)

You may feel a strong urge to embrace and engage power, assert your desires and act on deep impulses. Your sexual energy could also be very high now (use it wisely). You might feel like nothing can stop you or hold you back. In fact, the ability to create change and take action is especially strong right now. If you have been preparing to put plans into action, this can be a powerful time to do so. But also be aware that too much of a good thing can sometimes backfire – it is possible to overstep your bounds or come on a bit too strong, with this energy. Suppressed anger, frustration or an urge to "vanquish the enemy" may be expressed more forcefully than you intend. It will help to center yourself and focus on acknowledging your emotions, impulses and power – then use your good judgment when deciding whether or how to act on them.

Mar.20 – Mercury Retrograde sextile Saturn (19:12 of Pisces/Capricorn)  (Mar.21 in AU)

It can be easier to take a logical, practical approach to problem-solving and decisions now. It's a good time to make plans and work out the logistics of how you're going to get from "here" to "there" in pursuing your ambitions. Or, you may find it's time to bring closure to finished goals, by distilling and systemizing what you've learned in the past several months. This will probably require a bit of effort on your part to make it happen, but the opportunity is there if you choose to take it. This transit can bring mental stability and the ability to apply your mental focus in a practical and grounded way. It may be easier to see things realistically and objectively. Creative energy can become productive and rewarding, if you use it methodically or logically.

Happy Solar Return to everyone born in the sign of Aries! This is the Vernal Equinox – the time when day and night are of equal length. In the northern hemisphere, this marks the beginning of Spring, as the light increases. In the southern hemisphere, it is the start of Fall, as the light decreases. While the Sun is in Aries, it is a time when all of us (not just those born under the sign of Aries) have the opportunity to experience our Aries nature. The archetype of that nature is like the pure life force that is contained in a single seed. A seed is the residue of a previous cycle of growth – both its resulting harvest and its unfinished business. The Aries energy is about our use of that raw life force within our personal expression of that energy. It manifests in assertiveness, courage, risk-taking, directness, initiative, our sex drive, and the pioneering spirit. It can also emerge as aggression, pushiness, violence, anger, recklessness and self-absorption. The same forceful energy that can fuel damage and single-minded egotism is the same energy that, applied in a different way, is also essential for self-validation, confidence and the drive to make things happen. While the Sun is in Aries, we all have the opportunity to explore how we use this energy in our lives and whether we want to change this. Here are some suggestions about how to explore your Aries nature: Is there something new you want to start in your life? What activities do you want to begin that you've never done before? What will give you the courage and confidence to bring these into your life? If it is not possible to do this, or if you encounter delays, how do you deal with your frustration? Do anger and frustration motivate you to take action, or do these emotions tend to overwhelm and inhibit you? How do you express your anger, and does this clear the air or just create more problems? Use this time to explore these and related areas.
