Full Moon in Gemini

Listen with curiosity.
Speak with honesty.
Act with integrity.

Dec.12 – FULL MOON in GEMINI (19:51 of Gemini)

This is the last Full Moon of the year and the decade. The Moon is in Gemini, an Airy, intellectual sign that seeks to categorise, connect and gather information. Lying opposite is the Sun in Sagittarius, a fiery, inspiration sign that is searching for a higher truth.

Both signs are connected on some level with education, knowing, learning, teaching. Gemini is school, Sagittarius is university. Gemini is facts, Sagittarius is philosophies. Gemini is linear language, Sagittarius is symbolic language. During this lunation we swing between the big picture and the little picture and try to make sense of what we know.

It isn’t easy. There’s so much Earth energy right now, so much CAPRICORN that we’re probably all feeling weighed down in some aspect of our lives. The media too (news is a Gemini function) is full of dire scenarios and horror stories and no doubt is also playing on our minds.

T-square: Sun, Moon, Neptune

Capricorn energy is sensible, serious and likes certainty, but the problem is that Neptune is idling in a square to the Lights, creating a T‑square with all the emphasis on the Lord of the High Seas.

Neptune is anything but certain. Neptune is far more about what you feel in your soul. It’s all well and good because intuition trumps logic every time but the problem inherent in this chart is how do we trust our gut when everything feels so vague?

Also, the atmosphere seems to be infused with an odd sense of disappointment, apathy, defeat. Maybe we’re just tired of being spoon-fed lies, the fake news, the constant feeling than various factions are trying to win our favour with promises of paradise.

Of course, in the UK right now [where Leah is] this is a massive issue as the Full Moon date is also the date of our general election, upon which the future of our country rests. Neptune could either raise us up to unite against a common enemy or Neptune could scatter our thoughts, split the vote and send us heading to the pub to lose ourselves in several pints of ale.

Have patience with everything that remains
unsolved in your heart. in the question.
~ Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet

Politics aside, the question is, what do you know to be true right now?

The Moon is tightly quincunx Saturn in Capricorn. Although this is an awkward aspect, it is also one that gives us an anchor. Saturn sows a seed of doubt and we would be wise to listen.

Moon quincunx aspects

It doesn’t mean that we should focus on every negative thought in our minds or believe that we can’t accomplish our goals. All it means is that we need to take a second look at the information we have and then be prepared to turn over our decisions to that intuitive part of ourselves that sees beyond the mess of pros and cons.

Quincunxes between the Moon and the Venus-Pluto conjunction also bring a sense of unease and a temptation to obsess over what is right or wrong, good or bad. Background pressure is complicating things. The answers we want are not as clear cut as we would like, especially if we’re living in our heads and not listening to our hearts.

Mercury aspects

Mercury, ruler of this lunation is in detriment in the sign of Sagittarius. Thoughts can be scattered in this placement. A quincunx between Mercury and Uranus too adds low level anxiety.

However, healer Chiron is trine Mercury, bringing a free flow of shamanic wisdom that asks us to trust ourselves. Between fact and fiction lies our own personal truths. This aspect also reminds us to keep talking to one another as Chiron is a bridge-builder. Without continued communication with one another, we are truly lost.

The Moon in Gemini tells us that we must always leave room for dialogue. Keep talking. Keep listening. Keep an open mind.

Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything
that is mentionable can be more manageable.
When we can talk about our feelings,
they become less overwhelming, less upsetting,
and less scary. The people we trust with that
important talk can help us know that we are not alone.
~ Fred Rogers

Day to Day Transits for the Next 2 Weeks

Dec.12 – Chiron Stationary Direct (01:26 of Aries; until Jul.11.2020)   (Dec.13 in NST, UK, AU)   ("What's a Station?"   "What does Retrograde mean?"   Read more about Retrograde planets.)

For up to a week before and after this date, you may feel a bit like you're caught between worlds—the spiritual versus the physical, the mental versus the emotional, or the outer objective world versus your inner subjective experience. Chiron has been retrograde for the last 4½ months, giving us time to assess the places in our lives that need healing and to discover the ways that we might be wounding ourselves or others. This includes physical health issues, emotional vulnerability and mental perspectives that create more problems than they solve. As Chiron turns direct, everything we have learned over the last five months becomes ready to be applied over the coming three months (while Chiron is still in the Shadow). Right now, you might find you reach a decision or turning point about issues you have wrestled with since May concerning goals, career, expectations or authority. If these issues have been stressful, this might come out now in the form of health problems, so it's a good idea to be gentle yet disciplined with yourself in this area. It could be a time of ambiguity, feeling like you're caught in a whirlpool that mixes up possibilities with limitations. Or, you might experience some clarity, as the paradoxical coexistence of realities and potentials on the path before you come into clearer focus. Either way, it is a time that can be magical because of its ability to bridge the gap between what is and what might be.

Dec.13 – Venus returns from Out of Bounds (21:35 Capricorn; OOB since Nov.13; next OOB is Apr.02.2020)   ("What does Out of Bounds mean?"   "What is Declination?")

Coming back in bounds can be a bit of a bumpy landing as that unrestricted energy becomes squeezed back into its usual potency. This is a good time to observe your desires and social interaction, as well as changes in Venus themes in society around you. For several days before and after this date, pay attention to the things that amplify or cool down your desires and need for social connection. Realize that this is an adjustment period, and having some patience with yourself and others can help to smooth and soothe this time.

Alternatively, the re-entry can also be an eventful time when changes in Venus-related areas can occur. For example, you might feel this is the right time to start—or end—a relationship or friendship, or make changes to a social situation in your life. A shift in how you experience or handle desire, receptivity, diplomacy or compromise could inspire you to make positive changes in those areas. This might be due to a change in perspective as a result of your experiences while Venus was OOB.

Dec.13 – Mars trine Neptune (15:59 of Scorpio/Pisces)

This transit can bring a mystical, imaginative, compassionate aura to Mars' normally direct, fast, aggressive, self-focused energy. You may feel inspired to act on faith, confront with compassion, and react gently. On the other hand, it can be much easier to be motivated by something that turns out not to be what you thought it was. Much can depend on how impulsive your actions are and whether they are based on preplanning and research. We may tend to see our actions as righteous and justified.

Creative energy is usually strong, whether this is used literally in the arts or in finding creative solutions to conflicts and problems. Our anger and aggression may be expressed in a way that is compassionate and intuitive, although our assertive edge might also be blunted a bit too much. It might help to think of the snake in the old parable – even if you choose not to bite if someone steps on your tail, it doesn't mean you can't hiss.

Dec.13 – Venus conjunct Pluto (21:48 of Capricorn)  (Dec.14 in AU)

Intensity in love and close relationships can occur under this transit, as well as a compelling need to get more control over your finances and assets. This could manifest as power dynamics emerging in your interactions with others, in which you engage in a negotiation for a better balance of power that is more in your favour. Or, you might become somewhat obsessed with the pursuit of pleasure and beauty, possibly trying to compensate for a low sense of self-worth. Or, there can be a valuable opportunity to develop a deeper connection with those close to you. You might find it necessary to negotiate with others for financial support. You may have to dig deeper than usual to extract needed resources from hidden places (or to deposit them there, out of reach from others who want a piece of your hoard). Keep your integrity high and dry by being honest with yourself about the ethics of your actions.

Dec-Jan – Multiple Parallels and Conjunctions   "What's a Parallel?"  "What is Declination?"  Read my in-depth article

Saturn and Pluto have been travelling in parallel by declination since the beginning of 2016. Jupiter hooked up with them by parallel at the start of 2019, and the three have been in parallel all year, which continues through most of 2020. This 3-way parallel has been setting the stage for the conjunctions between these outer planets in Capricorn throughout 2020.

Now: Throughout December and into January, the Sun, Mercury and Venus all go through Capricorn and they conjoin and parallel Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto. And Mars catches up in mid-January. In other words, the fast Inner Planets are all dancing with the Big Boys in Capricorn this month and next. This brings next year's larger-than-life energy into a personal realm, and gives us a chance to get into sync with that powerful energy.

This is a time to prepare for the powerful transits of 2020, when Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto are conjunct in Capricorn. These are challenging energies, and the current parallels with the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars bring these forces down into the personal realm. This is a good time to get ready and discover how you can work with these energies, rather than feeling like you're being worked over by them!

For an in-depth look at how to get the most out of this time, read my new article: Turning Points : Preparing for Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto 2020 ~ The Parallels of December and January

Dec.15 – Jupiter trine Uranus (02:56 of Capricorn/Taurus)  (Dec.16 in AU)

Insight, ideas and inspiration characterise this transit. It is an excellent time to break free of old outmoded beliefs and judgments, which can make room for new perspectives, opinions and wisdom. Innovative ideas come together within an expanded context that gives them new meaning. You can breathe fresh air into your spiritual beliefs and opinions by taking an open-minded approach and trying on new ideas. Unexpected, unusual or "lucky" opportunities may arise that allow you to get out of old ruts and advance toward future possibilities. If you have been feeling stuck in your quest to gain truth, understanding, spirituality or meaning, this transit could bring a release that allows you to get past your resistance. However, even "good" aspects have their drawbacks and this is no exception. It can be tempting to sit back and allow the opportunities to come to you, but not follow through on them—being all ideas and no sustained action. Your behaviour could be somewhat erratic and unpredictable, as your direction may shift and change with every new possibility that presents itself. This transit's greater agenda is to open the door for you to stretch beyond your known horizons and touch the edge of the Universal Mind.

Dec.19 – Mars sextile Saturn (19:56 of Scorpio/Capricorn)  (Dec.18 in HAST)

There is an opportunity to harness the energy of willpower using practical discipline. Your physical and mental energy are likely to be stable and enduring, or else they can become this way more easily than usual by applying a sustained focus of effort. This is a great transit if you need to be productive or to make progress in a goal that you are working toward. The thing to watch out for is a tendency to be over-cautious to the point where you get stuck in the planning stage and don't get much done. Or, you might try to rush into the production phase before your plans are fully formed. This transit works best when these areas are brought into balance.

Dec.19 – Mercury square Neptune (16:04 of Sagittarius/Pisces)  (Dec.20 in AST, NST, UK, AU)

Your mental focus may be a bit clouded, confused or lethargic right now, as your conscious mind struggles to grasp the formless, limitless expanse of the Universe and the unconscious. You may experience some disillusionment or disappointment, in your observations or communication with others. However, what is flowing under the surface of events right now is the need to dissolve away the crust of old expectations that blocks your view from seeing a greater Truth. If you're feeling off-balance, try to listen more than you talk, so that you can be receptive to your inner sensitivity. Left-brain analysis might be difficult to work with right now unless you balance it with a lot of right-brain intuition. You may have to let go of a rigid mindset, or give up what you think you understand about a situation in your life, in order to open yourself to a new perspective that is difficult to define but is ultimately in the best interest of your spiritual growth.

Dec.20 – Venus enters Aquarius (until Jan.13)  (Dec.19 in HAST, AKST, PST, MST)

Relationships, material abundance and values take a step back to gain perspective, detachment and room to breathe in freedom. You may find that you want to use your finances and resources to benefit those who are disadvantaged or to support the greater good of society in some way. It can be a good time to experiment or try new things, to network with groups of people, and to take an objective view about intimacy and interaction. Relationships can take on an idealistic edge, seeking a state of equality and rebelling against imbalances that give one person advantage over the other. Having a strong element of friendship in your intimate relationships may become very important during this time, and friendships themselves could take a central place in your life. Detachment without disconnection is the ideal here. You may not be in a position to foresee future possibilities and translate desires into wishes and new hope.

Dec.21 – Venus sextile Chiron (01:27 of Aquarius/Aries)

Although this transit lasts for only a few days, it is possible to make some progress in your healing and rebalancing efforts, although it will take some effort to make it happen. This may show itself in relationships, social interaction, finances, values, health or your spiritual connection to the Universe. You have an increased ability to negotiate with others and with your circumstances to achieve a fair compromise that results in equal sacrifice and benefit for all concerned. However, there is a risk of wanting to avoid conflict and discord so much that you negotiate beyond what you are truly comfortable with – peace at any price. By accepting and embracing the effort or struggle that is required, you can get out of your own way and achieve a more healing balance in those struggles. You now have increased ability to facilitate changes in situations that are within your control. It can also be easier to accept and adapt to that which lies beyond your control. Your effect on others can be potentially healing right now, especially by helping them find a new balance and point of acceptance in the conflicts and struggles of their lives.

Happy Solar Return to all Capricorns! And Happy Solstice and Happy Yule to all of us! When the Sun enters Capricorn each year, it marks the Winter Solstice in the northern hemisphere (longest night) and the Summer Solstice in the southern hemisphere (longest day). Yule is the traditional celebration of the December solstice in European-derived cultures, welcoming the start of the increasing light. While the Sun is in Capricorn, we have the opportunity to explore our connection to the earth (Capricorn being an Earth sign) in a physical way. Whether you are bundling up to survive a cold winter, or unwinding after the summer heat, or getting down to business as the landscape blooms in "downunder" summer splendour, there is something very manifest and substantial about the experience of Capricorn. This energy calls on us to get real in whatever we are doing – to bring structure, responsibility and discipline to whatever we do. It is a time to work on our "containment." Not in the sense of suppression, but in terms of defining the boundaries within which our growth can flourish down the road, and keeping our impulses from inconveniently spilling over the edges of those boundaries. Sometimes that means cutting back in certain areas in order to focus your energy and make room for new growth. Sometimes it means having to delay gratification and reward until you reach a certain point of progress. The Capricorn rule of thumb is: if you do whatever is necessary, the rewards will come.

Dec.22 – Venus square Uranus (02:48 of Aquarius/Taurus)  (Dec.23 in AU)

Under this transit, you may be tempted by impulse spending, or you might be somewhat erratic in your use of resources. This can result in unpredictable or unstable finances, so double check your bank accounts and credit cards before you draw on them. It is also a time when the way you relate to others (or they to you) could be somewhat inconsistent, fickle or impulsive. If your relationships or financial situation have been struggling with difficulties for a while, this transit could bring a lingering problem to the surface and require attention. On one hand, this could be a welcome breath of fresh air that cuts through the complexity of your problems and puts the cards on the table (despite the stress and conflict that likely triggered it). Or, you might feel resistance to making these changes and instead experience this as a time of unwelcome instability, upset and adjustment. However, this may be a good way to break free of excessive restraint, control or structure, which allows new possibilities to emerge that couldn't do so otherwise.

Dec.22 – Mars sextile Pluto (22:04 of Scorpio/Capricorn)  (Dec.23 in AU)

This can be a time of intense and powerful energy. It can be especially so if you focus your intention to tap into and use this energy deliberately, although if you are triggered into a reaction you might find it is more forceful than you intended. This can be a good time to make changes that have far-reaching, transformative effects. Your powers of persuasion can be stronger now, so be careful you don't try to force things to the point of making something happen that perhaps should be left alone or treated with a gentler touch. Sex and other passionate urges may rise more easily now, although obsession and the need to control your surroundings might come up with them. This transit is perhaps best used to refresh your sense of passion and transform your sense of purpose and direction.

Dec.22 – Mercury goes Out of Bounds (20:17 Sagittarius to 23:06 Capricorn; OOB until Jan.12)  (Dec.23 in AU) ("What does Out of Bounds mean?"   "What is Declination?")

Mercury goes Out of Bounds (OOB), giving us a chance to peek into ideas and observations beyond our usual thoughts, awareness and comfort zone. The "air up there" can be a bit rarefied. If you're not used to it (and even if you are), your thoughts might seem almost a bit drunk, confused, unusually inspired, or flowing so freely that it's hard to capture them clearly. If you do catch one of these thoughts clearly, remember that it's an idea, not necessarily reality, even though you could use it to create a new reality for yourself. Your mental peripheral vision can become expanded, taking in more information than usual. You may have a chance to manifest it more clearly when Mercury returns from "outer space."

Another effect that is common while Mercury is OOB is that it can feel like Mercury is retrograde, even when it's not. Weird things often happen, including confusion and things seeming to be generally out-of-synch. As with the actual Mercury retrograde, it's best to give yourself a bit more time to get to appointments, drive more carefully, double-check information and give everyone around you a bit more patience, since they're going through this too.

Like all things in astrology and life, Mercury OOB has its upside and its downside. Much depends on which thoughts you feed and what you feed them with. If you consume fear, suspicion, anger or hostility, you could find yourself feeling a bit paranoid, easily angered, or looking for ways to cheat in order to avoid anticipated negativity. On the upside, you may discover a fresh understanding about things, putting new pieces of the puzzle into place and tapping into a higher level of truth and insight. Try writing down your ideas, perceptions, thoughts and moods. After Mercury comes back down to earth, you can see how you can put those observations and ideas to good use.

Dec.23 – Sun square Chiron (01:29 of Capricorn/Aries)  (Dec.24 in AU)

Your self-confidence and patience may be a bit strained right now, stretched by the urge to break free of chronic constraints. Motivation and self-esteem may seem to sag and suffer from old problems that you thought were resolved. This is probably because you are seeing "the flaws in the system" that are preventing you from getting the results you want. It will help to take a fresh approach to your situation. You may need to let go of what you think the results "should be" or how they should come to you. Be open to getting what you want in a different form than you were expecting. You may have to work extra hard for results now, especially if it means having to find a different route to success. If it seems like a door of opportunity has closed, look for an unexpected advantage or hidden alternative. This could allow you to tap into other opportunities that wouldn't have been possible otherwise.

Dec.24 – Sun trine Uranus (02:46 of Capricorn/Taurus)  (Dec.25 in AU)

You are more open than usual to spontaneity, surprises and "flying by the seat of your pants!" Your sense of humour and fun are let loose during this transit, as is your ability to break out of old outworn habits. You may get a flash of insight, a burst of courage or a surge of inspiration under this transit. The spirit of who you are can become released now, possibly leading to you behaving a bit "out of character." It's a great time to try new things and experiment with something that's out of character for you. In fact, it may be surprising how easy it is to break out of your usual much so, that it's good to be careful not to be too reckless under this transit. If your self-confidence, self-expression or self-esteem have been stifled or dampened lately, these could come flying out rather erratically, carelessly or chaotically. Strive to have fun pushing the envelope without ripping it. ;-)
