Transition in Translation

Listen with curiosity. Speak with honesty. Act with integrity. The greatest problem with communication is we don’t listen to understand. We listen to reply. When we listen with curiosity, we don’t listen with the intent to reply. We listen for what’s behind the words.

May.22 – NEW MOON in GEMINI (02:04 of Gemini)

A New Moon in Gemini is usually a time to squeeze out your cerebral sponge, catching the drops of thought-provoking nectar on your tongue, to be shared with the world through words and self-expression.

Be alert, be playful, curious, witty and alert. This applies to the current Gemini New Moon, although of course we have the twist of this pesky pandemic to deal with. It's not always easy to be light-hearted or emotionally detached with a global crisis swirling around you.

New Moon trine Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto

Thankfully, there are saving graces in this New Moon chart. The Sun—and therefore also the Moon—has a lovely, easy-going trine aspect (120°) with Saturn (tight 0:13 orb, exact just 5½ hours before). There is also the afterglow of a trine to Jupiter (4:56 orb, exact May.17), and even the fading residue of the trine to Pluto (7:15 orb, exact May.15).

The New Moon's trine to these outer planets implies that it's possible to establish a more comfortable relationship with the no-nonsense, disciplined approach we still need to take in order to protect ourselves and others from COVID-19. This reflects the fact that the vice grip of lockdown is gradually loosening, and the softening of that pressure can likely make the remaining restrictions a bit easier to manage.

Mercury cnj Venus, sqr Neptune

On the other hand, there is bright red line in the chart showing where the high octane excitement is happening. It's a striking square aspect (90°) between Neptune and the tight Mercury-Venus conjunction—all of them partile at 20° of Pisces and Gemini, respectively. Got anything at or near 20° in your chart? It's getting a difficult aspect from one of them and a supportive aspect from the other.

Natal planets/points in the Feminine/Yin signs (Water and Earth – Cancer/Scorpio/Pisces and Taurus/Virgo/Capricorn) will get some love from Neptune, but an edgy glare from Mercury and Venus. Natal planets/points in the Masculine/Yang signs (Air and Fire – Gemini/Libra/Aquarius and Aries/Leo/Sagittarius) will get a wink and a smile from Mercury and Venus, but disappointing or mixed messages from Neptune.

For all of us, the effects and implications of the Mercury-Venus square Neptune are stacked several layers deep, and we'll need to unpack them to get the full spectrum of what they show us.

If you’re going through hell, keep going.
~ Anonymous (attributed to many)

"All is lost! All these people getting seriously sick, and everyday more people are dying. I'm about to claw through the walls to get out of lockdown but I'm scared I'll get it. The world will never be the same again. We should just give up——"

——Whoa! Wait a minute! Okay, it's true that this year has been very rough on all of us—and certainly some more than others. And it's not over yet; we still have a long way to go to get to the other side of this pandemic. But we can and will make it. Many non-essential businesses are now opening up again, so jobs will start coming back and we can start doing some of the things we used to. Don't lose hope! You've hung in there this long, keep going.

"Awesome! We're virtually there. The COVID numbers are going down in most places, and the world is opened up, while more and more people recover every day. So we can do what we want now. No need to think about it anymore——"

——Hold it! How's that again? Okay yes, most places are gradually getting a handle on the pandemic, but that only means the number of new cases is decreasing, not that there aren't any. And this progress is because of the precautions we're taking – social distancing, washing hands, wearing masks in public places, and avoiding large groups. So, we need to continue doing most of the things we've been doing or the numbers will go right back up again. And trust me, you don't want to get this virus if you can help it.

(For a clear explanation of the best practical ways to avoid getting COVID-19, check out this article.)

This conflicted square between Neptune and Mercury-Venus may try to seduce us with this kind of "stinkin' thinkin'" made of rationalizations, shortcut logic and cherry-picked facts. The square aspect makes it difficult to get a clear focus on the shift between subtle shades of grey, as we try to navigate the fluctuating information, mixed advice, and changing rules.

As a result, it can feel easier to just go to one extreme or the other – "everything's fine now" versus "nothing will ever be fine again." But that black-or-white view misses a lot of what's actually going on in between. Ambiguity isn't easy when you need clear, concrete knowledge about how to stay safe.

So, it will help to look to the best that Neptune offers, which can be translated into a viewpoint, attitude or routine that is concise and clear. One thing you might try is a kind of walking meditation in which you stay focused on/in the Now, taking one day at a time, one hour or minute at a time when necessary. Trying to "push the river" by leaping into a wishful, burden-free future is more likely to create turmoil and slow down real progress.

Neptune also offers a vision of "higher love" that encourages us to respond in the moment with the best part of us that is rooted in love, patience and faith in whatever Higher Power moves you. In other words, let your struggle be for peace, harmony, and the awareness that we're all trying to do the best we can.

Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.
~ Voltaire

Mercury conjunct Venus is another layer of this New Moon chart, with even more layers inside. When Venus walks arm-in-arm with Mercury, they recite poetry, speak with words of appreciation and caring, and listen for the moments that reveal a common connection.

First off, Venus is now Retrograde (May.13 to Jun.25), as well as still being Out of Bounds (OOB) by declination (Apr.02 to Jun.01). These two factors have been with us through most of the era of social distancing, lockdown and self-isolation. With Venus being about our social interaction as well as close or committed relationships, her OOB period has certainly pulled us out of the norm in these areas, to say the least!

Venus entered into the beginning stages of her retrograde cycle in late-February, with her prolonged semi-square to the Sun (45°), and the greater retrograde cycle plays out until mid-September. (Read more about Venus Retrograde.)

Venus is also about money, income, possessions and resources. Sadly, many people have lost their business or job, temporarily or permanently. Most of us are spending more money than we usually do during this time, stocking up on food to sustain us for a while in lockdown, and therefore not being able to wait for the sales where we could save some money. Many have had to become quite innovative and creative in order to get the things they need, and this is typical of both Venus OOB and Venus retrograde.

Since Venus went retrograde in mid-May, many businesses and services have started to open up, which hopefully will ease the harshness of social distancing, income and material needs somewhat. It's possible that Venus retrograde will bring a bit of reprieve from the Venus-type struggles. This commonly happens, where Venus themed things get turned around under the retrograde – income (especially for self-employed people) might increase or decrease, and relationships may become easier or harder during that time.

So, whichever direction Venus is turning in your life, be aware that it's probably temporary. It might leave lasting changes, but the elation or stress will shift again after Venus turns direct again in late-June. And either way, you'll still need to stay loose, flexible and adaptable to the changing astrological weather.

It is not that I'm so smart.
But I stay with the questions much longer.
~ Albert Einstein

Stellium in Gemini

Mercury is strong in his own sign of Gemini and also rules the New Moon. In fact, he rules the whole Stellium in Gemini (Sun, Moon, Venus and himself). So there is an abundance of Gemini energy spinning through the air that can bring out the cerebral, clever, inquisitive and mercurial side of us.

As I write this, I can see Venus and Mercury in the sunset twilight. Mercury is elusive and hard to spot. You need a good clear sky and you have to catch him when he's near a retrograde or direct station, so that he's far enough away from the Sun to be visible in the dusk or dawn. And sometimes you just have to rest your gaze in the area of the sky where he should be and wait for him to glimmer at you.

In the same way, the astrological Mercury can be hard to focus on clearly, from thoughts to insights to dreams. One second you have this great idea, the next second it goes sideways, bobbing around like a cork and rushing past you in the stream of consciousness.

This is amplified right now with Mercury being conjunct the retrograde Venus and square the nebulous Neptune. So, you might need to "catch as catch can" for a while. Consider carrying a little notebook with you, so that if you get any brainstorms you can write them down right away and ponder them later.

Mercury's state of mind gets transmitted over to the New Moon in Gemini. The result is likely to be a bit muddled yet inspiring, intriguing but tangled up, uplifting yet provocative. So, pay attention to your dreams – daydreams and nighttime dreams. Tune in to clever ideas that may be camouflaged as background noise or offhand thoughts – you may find some observations worth following down the rabbit hole to see where they lead.

It will probably work best to approach this for a while as an adventure in exploring possibilities and options, rather than a hunt for solid conclusions. Part of the reason is that Mercury is about to change gears and shift down into his retrograde cycle in Cancer. He enters the shadow phase on Jun.02, goes retrograde from Jun.18 to Jul.12, and exits the shadow on Jul.26. So, information and knowledge are likely to shift around for the next couple of months. This could easily be reflected in our evolving understanding of COVID-19, since we are still learning what this unfamiliar virus is all about.

Another possibility is that the virus could mutate and create a whole new situation; for example, a resurgence of new cases or discovering more symptoms or side effects. Already there are reports of new mutations of the virus, which is very common for viruses (it's why there's a different flu shot every year). These changes may or may not mean it will get worse or better, but it might complicate determining a reliable strategy to prevent infection.

Mercury's currently ambiguous and irregular nature could also amplify the already-erratic flow of information and its reliability. Misinformation and misinterpretation are rampant right now. Some claims are deliberately misleading, while others are based on leaping to premature conclusions. The truth is there is a lot we still don't know about this virus – we are still learning how it works, how it manifests, how to treat it, and how to avoid it.

Our own healing proceeds from that overlap of what we call good and evil, light and dark.
It is not that the light element alone does the healing;
the place where light and dark begin to touch is where miracles arise.
~ Robert A. Johnson, Owning Your Own Shadow: Understanding the Dark Side of the Psyche

The upcoming Mercury retrograde cycle, along with Venus currently retrograde in Mercury's sign, plus both of them being Out of Bounds, suggests that our learning, understanding and wisdom about most things—especially this whole situation—is still evolving and will take time to be captured by a stable structure of knowledge.

The cycles of Mercury and Venus are woven together and overlap by OOB and Rx for the next several weeks. Venus remains in Gemini, while Mercury heads into Cancer on May.28 for his retrograde rampage. The last 2 weeks of May has both Mercury and Venus OOB, which boosts the urge and need to think outside the box in communication, relationships, interactions, and how you process information.

And from June 18-25, both Mercury and Venus are retrograde, when we'll probably need to go back over the decisions, choices and learning we did while they were OOB. As our lives shift and adjust to changing rules and scientific knowledge over the coming weeks and months, the double-retrograde period in particular could be a bit more erratic than usual. Apply some extra patience and willingness to choose your steps one at a time with very little advance notice.

On the more positive side, these tandem OOB and retrograde periods also present excellent opportunities to bend your mind and learn something that's kind of "out there," or to use creative playfulness to pluck new insights and observations from your imagination and intuition.

Going back to the New Moon in Gemini, its trine aspects to Jupiter and Saturn can help to stir some stability and wisdom into all that Gemini instability and confusion, at least for the duration of this lunar cycle (May.22 to June 21).

New Moon sqr Mars sxt Uranus

The Sun and Moon are angling toward a sharp-edged square with Mars (90°), with the Sun reaching exact on Jun.06. Mars himself is tilting toward a cooperative sextile with Uranus (60°), which perfects on May.25. There's a potential here to take the tension and motivation of Mars and channel it into a project or activity that allows you to adjust your direction in a positive way.

In fact, getting a positive, constructive handle on that Mars energy sooner rather than later is highly recommended because Mars will bring his emotional intensity to bear on the upcoming Full Moon (Jun.05). And that Full Moon happens to be a Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius, which means from this New Moon we're heading into another eclipse season. This one is a little longer than usual, with 2 partial lunar eclipses (June 5 and July 5), and a total solar eclipse in the middle (Jun.21).

There will be lots more about these eclipses in future Low-Down editions, of course. For now, suffice to say that if you can get a beneficial grasp on the Mars-Uranus sextile now, as the Sun moves in to challenge Mars to a duel, it will build a resource that you can draw on over the next several weeks. To do that, it can help to tune in to your impulses and intentions, and give them a long, honest look to find out how much they're based on defending an angry Inner Child or on inspired action from your deep intuition. It doesn't have to be either/or and could be a combination of the two.

If you find your reactions being a bit more volatile than usual, or you're trying to dampen a higher level of anxiety than usual, discovering the deeper source of these can help you gain some control over them, so that you're having an emotion rather than it having you. With Mars in Pisces, some quiet meditation or contemplation, or artistic self-exploration (collage, dance, etc), can be good for that.

If peace and quiet aren't your cup of Mars, try channelling that energy into doing something a bit out of character or innovative. Or even better, consider what you can do now to establish resources (material, physical, emotional, spiritual, etc) that can keep you motivated and focused; for example, if (when?) the pandemic numbers grow again and we must batten down the hatches of quarantine for a while again. These suggestions pivot on Uranus energy – breaking away from the old, moving toward the future, and tapping into the parts of us that we tend to keep hidden or shackled.

Mars will become increasingly active and prominent as the year goes on. Mars goes retrograde in Aries late this year (Sep.09 to Nov.13), and marches into the beginning phases of that cycle in late July. He also plays a key role in the upcoming lunar eclipse on Jun.05. So, the Mars energies related to impulsiveness, anger, hostility and defiance, as well as confidence, action and independence, are expected to be on the rise increasingly as the year progresses. (Heaven forbid that 2020 should be an easy year...)

This current sextile to Uranus can help you become prepared to meet these challenges by drilling down into your spiritual and psychological Inner Self, and let it come out more authentically where it can be integrated with the socially accepted parts of you.

To do that, tap into your Gemini nature. Your powers of observation. Your ability to consider multiple viewpoints, and your passion for ideas and insight. Listen for the quiet whispers that give you another piece of the puzzle. Find your voice. Use your words. Let love be your guide. Stay curious.

Dig deep.
Give people more grace than they deserve and give them less punishment than they deserve.
Lean towards peace, not conflict. So many people are suffering.
This is most important, bulge with kindness. Or as [my pastor] said, "Treat kindness like it is chocolate cake." Everyone is struggling. Kindness changes that. It is a key word my husband and I have decided to put out front as we struggle with the wear and tear of all this. I will first and foremost be kind. Kindness to our partners, our co-workers our friends and family, our children and most importantly ourselves.

Day to Day Transits for the Next 2 Weeks

May.22 – Mercury conjunct Venus Retrograde (20:11 of Gemini)  (May.21 in HAST)

Social connections, diplomatic communication and receptive awareness mark this transit. It can be a great time to negotiate contracts or agreements because the communication can usually flow easily. Focus your awareness on achieving a mutual balance between you and the other person. A win-win solution is especially easy to achieve now – so much so, in fact, that it might be tempting to only say what you think the other person wants to hear (which may or may not be wise). This can also be a time of appreciating and expressing beauty, pleasure and sensuality. If there's someone you want to get closer to (in terms of romance, friendship, business, partnership, or even an adversary!), talking gently and listening receptively can be the key that unlocks the door. You may also get new creative ideas from your interactions with people or from observing them.

May.22 – Sun trine Saturn (01:51 of Gemini/Aquarius)

This is a great time to apply yourself to serious work. You may feel especially self-sufficient and independent, with a strong and clear sense of self and purpose. There is support for your ambitions as long as you stay grounded and practical in how you approach them, which should come easily right now. Your ability to cooperate and feel comfortable with authority figures is likely to be high, along with your capacity to embrace your own authority and make solid decisions. This is a time when you are more likely to feel grounded and deal with problems in a practical, decisive way. Your energy may be more serious than "party animal," but even if you are in "party mode" it will be easier to realistically know your limits and not overdo it. If you've been waiting for the right time to move forward with or manifest a project or plan that you've been putting together (or wanting to), this could be the time when that happens. The final launch or manifestation may or may not happen now, but you will probably be able to at least move forward in some important steps.

May.22 – Mercury square Neptune (20:41 of Gemini/Pisces)  (May.23 in AU)

Your mental focus may be a bit clouded, confused or lethargic right now, as your conscious mind struggles to grasp the formless, limitless expanse of the Universe and the unconscious. You may experience some disillusionment or disappointment, in your observations or communication with others. However, what is flowing under the surface of events right now is the need to dissolve away the crust of old expectations that blocks your view from seeing a greater Truth. If you're feeling off-balance, try to listen more than you talk, so that you can be receptive to your inner sensitivity. Left-brain analysis might be difficult to work with right now unless you balance it with a lot of right-brain intuition. You may have to let go of a rigid mindset, or give up what you think you understand about a situation in your life, in order to open yourself to a new perspective that is difficult to define but is ultimately in the best interest of your spiritual growth.

May.24-26 – Moon goes Out of Bounds (29:11 Gemini to 24:26 Cancer)  (May.25 in AU)   ("What does Out of Bounds mean?"   "What is Declination?")

The Moon goes Out of Bounds (OOB) by Declination, during which time your feelings and emotions may be a bit stronger than usual. You might feel a little separated from the world around you, and as a result you might feel a bit lonely or in need of some reassuring human contact. On the other hand, this detachment might be a welcome change if you're feeling a bit stressed or overwhelmed by the energy around you and need some time out. Or, you may find it's time to go your own way a bit more, to seek your own company or search for a more supportive environment. Your creativity and imagination might be more willing to follow unusual ideas, whims and impulses.

A planet goes OOB when its declination is greater than 23:26 (23 degrees and 26 minutes), which is the maximum declination of the Sun, and the Sun defines the Bounds. In 2020, the Moon's maximum declination finally goes beyond the Bounds in March, for the first time since 2011, and will continue to go OOB until January 2030.

For now, the Moon's maximum declination increases very gradually each month, and only gets to 24:52 by December 2020 (compared to her maximum declination of 28:34, which she'll reach in 2025). So, in 2020 the Moon is only a little OOB and this energy might not be very noticeable until around September. On the other hand, the OOB periods can be a time when your emotional reactions may be somewhat more amplified than usual. In any case, if you have the Moon or other planets OOB in your natal chart, you might be more sensitive to this energy.

May.25 – Mars sextile Uranus (08:12 of Pisces/Taurus)  (May.24 in HAST, AKDT, PDT)

You have an opportunity to move forward through inspired action. This can bring creative problem solving to any conflicts or challenges that are currently in your life. Now is the time to think outside the box and experiment with trying out new responses, actions and directions. It may be easier to be spontaneous and even to act "out of character." If this is something you easily go overboard with, you might want to find ways to channel this constructively. The idea is to be refreshingly spontaneous, not recklessly impulsive. On the other hand, if you have trouble kicking up your heels and being free and unfettered, this transit can be used to get you moving a bit better. If you don't use this energy constructively or consciously, you might wind up feeling somewhat erratic or restless. Find something exciting, inspiring or unusual to spend your energy on.

May.28 – Mercury conjunct North Lunar Node (29:13 of Gemini)  (May.27 in HAST, AKDT, PDT, MDT, CDT)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

Ideas are in focus, especially when they're shared with others. It could be a time when you observe or notice something new, giving you a new perspective that you will mull over for the coming several months. Or you might be called upon to give a talk or presentation that shares information with others. It might be an especially active time with emails, Facebook, Twitter or texting. Communication and collection of thoughts and ideas is the central theme here. Keep your eyes, mind and curiosity open – the world could be showing you something important and fascinating!

May.28 – Mercury enters Cancer (until Aug.04)

Intuition, sensitive perception, and communication of feelings flow more easily during this transit. Your empathy may be deepened now, as you can be more able to imagine and pick up on what other people feel and need. Because of this, you may also find that it's easier to say difficult things in a sensitive, caring way. However, your open connection to others might also increase the risk of communicating in a hurtful or callous way, if you are not used to treading gently. Your creative imagination is also more accessible now. To take advantage of this, try doing some journal writing, expand your emotional awareness, have some creative fun, or think of ways to make your environment more homey and comfortable.

Mercury remains in Cancer for over 2 months! That's because Mercury goes retrograde in Cancer from Jun.18 to Jul.12.

May.29 – Sun sextile Chiron (08:39 of Gemini/Aries)

This is a time when you have an opportunity to mend and heal the chronic struggles in your life. You may find new inspiration, motivation or confidence that can help rejuvenate waning enthusiasm or reconcile persistent problems, although you'll still have to apply effort to bring it all together. You might get the chance to demonstrate your ability to walk your own path in a new way. Or, you might get a peek inside the hidden shadow of your worries and discouragement, giving you new insight into how you might be unconsciously sabotaging your conscious efforts. You may have to face a bit of your own fear of failure or low self-esteem before you can get beyond these feelings and tap into the benefits of this transit – not because you are failing but because these concerns may arise in response to the new potential now available to you. By tapping into this potential for creative problem solving, you can bring some healing to whatever your situation is.

Jun.01 – Venus returns In-Bounds (14:39 of Gemini. OOB since Apr.02; OOB from 28:37 Taurus to 21:50 Gemini. Next OOB is May.23.2021.)  (Jun.02 in UK, AU)   ("What does Out of Bounds mean?"   "What is Declination?")

Venus has been Out of Bounds (OOB) by declination, and now returns within the bounds of the Sun, by declination. Venus is a bit harder to integrate into the conventional world while she's OOB – a little wilder and freer, and perhaps looking for a more adventurous connection with others, but also less grounded and realistic. Now that Venus is returning in-bounds now, you may find that these areas are a little easier to work and more likely to gain acceptance and approval from others. However, if you've enjoyed some extra freedom and release during the OOB, this might feel a bit like coming back from a great vacation and now it's time to get back to work. The best thing you can do with your Venus OOB experiences is look for ways to integrate them into your everyday life.

Coming back in bounds can be a bit of a bumpy landing as that unrestricted energy becomes squeezed back into its usual potency. This is a good time to observe your desires and social interaction, as well as changes in Venus themes in society around you. For several days before and after this date, pay attention to the things that amplify or cool down your desires and need for social connection. Realize that this is an adjustment period, and having some patience with yourself and others can help to smooth and soothe this time.

Alternatively, the re-entry can also be an eventful time when changes in Venus-related areas can occur. For example, you might feel this is the right time to start—or end—a relationship or friendship, or make changes to a social situation in your life. A shift in how you experience or handle desire, receptivity, diplomacy or compromise could inspire you to make positive changes in those areas. This might be due to a change in perspective as a result of your experiences while Venus was OOB.

Jun.02 – Mercury enters the Shadow (05:29 of Cancer; until Jul.26)  (Jun.01 in HAST, AKDT, PDT, MDT, CDT)   ("What's the Shadow?"  Read my articles about Retrograde Cycles.  Read my article about Mercury Retrograde.)

Mercury is now "in the Shadow" – the area of Zodiac where it will later go retrograde in about 2½ weeks time. During its retrograde cycle, Mercury travels through the same span of the Zodiac three times (called the Shadow). The first time through, it is going in direct motion (moving forward), then retrograde (looks like it's going backwards), and then direct again. This means there is a more extensive process of development and change involved with things that Mercury influences—ideas, thoughts, frame of mind and mental focus. It also concerns the collection, exchange, analysis and organisation of information. All forms of communication are also affected. This includes not just talking, but also email and snail mail, the Internet, the media in general, books and magazines, as well as public transit (buses, trains, etc.) and neighbourhoods.

The situations developing over the next couple of weeks (leading up to when Mercury actually goes retrograde) will likely require further research, deeper consideration and adjustments to unexpected discoveries over the next couple of months. Expect changes in your plans, increasingly disrupted communication, and new information coming to light that may not fit conveniently into your plans. It's wise to leave lots of extra time to do things, to plan future projects and get to wherever you're going. Patience is a valuable quality during this time. If you must make important decisions during this time, try to build some flexibility into your plans to allow for later changes—or if possible, you may want to delay final or irrevocable decisions until well after Mercury goes direct.

Mercury makes 3 passes of the following transits during this retrograde cycle:

Here are the key dates of this Mercury cycle (for North American Eastern Time):

Jun.02 – Venus Retrograde square Mars (14:02 of Gemini/Pisces)  (Jun.03 in AU)

Your receptive, diplomatic side is arguing with your assertive, decisive side. The result is either a battle of wills between your Yin and Yang, or a new creative energy that harnesses both. This could manifest in the form of relationship problems, financial struggles, arguments about control, or you are propelled to take action with plans that have been percolating for a while. If you're usually more comfortable with your Yin side (receptive, diplomatic), you might feel a bit backed into a corner or forced to negotiate under pressure. If you're more at home in your Yang side (assertive, action-oriented), you may feel compelled to blunt or sheathe the sword you would prefer to smite your enemy with. Either way, this is about balancing the two sides and finding a new cooperation that works for both.

Venus is now Retrograde as she squares Mars, after a long cooperative trine aspect between them from Mar.22 to May.10. During that time, many of us experienced a burst of creativity, if only as a coping mechanism in response to the stress of social distancing. The Venus-Mars trine also made it a bit easier to cope with changes to our relationships and interactions. During this time, Venus was also Out of Bounds by declination, giving her a freer, less conventional expression.

Venus is now In-Bounds (Jun.01) and Retrograde (May.13) and now in a stressful square to Mars. On the difficult side, you could be feeling more stress relating to changing relationships, money and resources, and creative inspiration. Adaptation to these circumstances may be more out of necessity than creative experimentation. Or, the novelty of how you got through the last few months has worn off and now you have to either decide to take it further and make it a regular routine, or face the harder reality of these changes.

This is the second pass of a long, drawn-out transit: Jan.26, Jun.02, Sep.04. This transit can bring problems or challenges in relationships, money and resources that need to find a more creative or high-energy solution. In addition, this transit may show a place in your life where you need to soften your hard edges or your driving ambition, to make it more palatable to the outside world (and perhaps also to your own peace of mind). These changes evolve over many months.

Jun.03 – Sun conjunct Venus Retrograde (13:35 of Gemini)  (Jun.04 in AU)

When the Sun is conjunct Venus retrograde, it initiates a new beginning in all things related to Venus. That includes self-image, beauty, love, relationships, interaction, finances, resources, pleasure and sensuality. However, this new beginning is small and largely hidden, like a seed beneath the earth that is about to sprout. You are the co-gardener of your soul now, in partnership with the Universe. Therefore, be gentle, consistent and supportive of yourself, as you would a sprouting seed. You may not be clear on what the new beginning is until well after Venus goes direct, so be patient. The peak period of Venus conjunct the Sun is when they are within 17 minutes of arc (or some say within 1 degree), which lasts about 2 days when Venus is direct versus 8-9 hours when retrograde. This is called being Cazimi, meaning "in the heart of the Sun." When any planet is Cazimi, it is said to be unusually strong – being in the eye of the storm, so to speak – and can potentially be used to great advantage (for better or worse). In the case of Venus, your ability to interact and relate with others may be especially strong and powerful. It could be a good time to negotiate an agreement since the energy generally supports strategy and equilibrium. However, depending on the sign, both sides may be determined to strike a balance in their favour, so make sure you read the fine print. Your sense of fairness might be a high priority right now; for best results, aim for fairness that works for both sides, when possible.

Here are the key dates of this Venus cycle (for North American Eastern Time):

Jun.04 – Mean North Lunar Node enters Gemini (until Dec.22.2021)  (Jun.05 in AU)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

Please note: This transit is for the Mean Lunar Node which averages the North Node's actual travel. Evolving Door Astrology uses the True Lunar Node, which takes into account the subtle wobbles and irregularities that this point actually goes through. However, for those who prefer to work with the Mean Node, I am including the Mean Node's sign change here because there's about a month between when the Mean Node and the True Node move into Gemini (May.05 versus Jun.04).

When the North Lunar Node is in Gemini, its opposite point, the South Lunar Node is in Sagittarius. Together they form an axis of energy which, in this case, moves toward Gemini and away from Sagittarius. At the North Node, you take in the energy; you take on new awareness and learning and you confront (or are confronted by) new challenges. For roughly a year and a half, you are learning about Gemini energy: ideas, information and communication. This is a time to exchange ideas, perceptions and awareness with others around you. Compare notes, gather new information and just observe what is going on in the world around you. It is also a time to find your voice – to speak up and share your knowledge with others. Learn to listen better – allow others to find their voice by sharing their information with you. Find the commonality with those around you, and discover how you connect with those around you. Hang out with friends and neighbours and just enjoy a beautiful day. Find ways to have fun and laugh, seeing life from a youthful, untarnished perspective. Be clever, witty and charming, and enjoy these qualities in others.

At the South Node (Sagittarius, in this case), we let go of something that is no longer needed. Once you've learned the lesson of the South Node, you release it; move it from the foreground to the background. Sagittarius is about higher knowledge, wisdom and a broad perspective about life. Rather than the simply collecting and sharing information, this is about discovering the greater meaning, implications and understanding of that information. Where Sagittarius can become trapped is intellectual snobbery and know-it-all arrogance. It can focus so much "out there" in the broad theoretical perspective about things that it misses the value in simply enjoying the here and now. Never mind reaching for the brother/sisterhood of global humanity – see what you have in common with your next door neighbour. Let go of your reliance on the symbolic, intellectual or theoretical meaning about life, since that can hide a fear of simple connection with your fellow humans.

The Gemini-Sagittarius themes will also play out in the houses in your natal chart where these signs reside, taking on challenges of the house where the North Node is and letting go of the baggage related to the opposite house where the South Node is.

The North Node is in Gemini during these times:

Jun.05 – Mercury Direct sextile Uranus (08:46 of Cancer/Taurus)

There is potential for brilliance and excitement under this transit. You may be more spontaneous, upbeat and eccentric than usual. If you are used to a fairly predictable lifestyle, it is a time when you may be inspired to experiment with something out of character. If you are used to being whacky, zany and impulsive, this transit can provide opportunities to express this. You may have an increased ability to "think outside the box" if you stretch your mind a little, and there is the possibility of having an "ah-ha!" experience, when answers and realisations fall into place. There is also the possibility of being mentally restless, so that it's hard to slow down your thoughts or apply yourself seriously to your responsibilities. Your attention span may be a bit short for a couple of days. This energy can be used to consider new ideas that seemed outlandish or impossible before, and see new potential in them.

This is the first of 3 passes of this transit: Jun.05, Jun.30, Jul.22.

Jun.05 – Mercury Direct square Chiron (08:52 of Cancer/Aries)

Your mental focus and perceptions may feel a bit strained right now. You could find yourself locked in a struggle of indecision that stems from a "glass half empty" versus "glass half full" dilemma. It may be difficult to stay objective and evenly balanced in your perspective, but by working with this you could also find a new mental focus that gives you increased clarity. It might be tempting to sink into cynicism as a way to deal with what seems like a no-win situation. On the other hand, this transit could bring your mental perspective to a kind of "healing crisis" that forces you to get a better grip on the ideas, communication and frame of mind that have been problematic for you. Instead of reaching for extremes (hoping this will clarify the path in front of you), it will help more if you can take a few steps back to allow all the conflicting and out-of-sync elements to coexist together – creative paradox. If you have been in denial about something, this could be a turning point that allows you to grapple with the complex reality of your situation.

This is the first of 3 passes of this transit: Jun.05, Jul.01, Jul.21.
