December 2005
Dec.01, 10:00 AM EST NEW
MOON IN SAGITTARIUS
("What's a New Moon?")
Spirituality, meaning, understanding and taking in
the "big picture" are all in focus during this New Moon cycle. In
particular, we are called upon to learn how to distinguish between using a
broader perspective (e.g., spiritual) to reframe and reform our ego-based
impulses, versus acting in a way that seems spiritual, moral and
compassionate but is secretly motivated by ego-based needs. In other words,
what is your primary frameworkyour ego needs or your spiritual growth?
They're not all that easy to tell apart right now, since one can seem to
mimic the other.
The one thing NOT to do during this cycle is to
use this as an excuse to judge, blame or be "holier-than-thou" with yourself
or others. Judgement too often brings shame which only hinders growth.
Instead, strive for objectivity and understanding which can bring your
self-perception into a new balance with your need for structure and your
need for complete acceptance. Primal emotions (e.g., anger, libido,
aggression/assertion, desires) can become amplified and a bit out of control
during this cycle, making it seem like you're backsliding. But a detached,
objective perspective can bring insight about what is really motivating
youwhich is very likely to involve issues about empowerment, powerlessness
and the need to vent out the toxic emotions in order to heal.
Find a safe place and/or person to vent with
(e.g., therapist, spiritual advisor, trusted friend, journal-writing,
working out). It may seem like no matter what you do, you're doing something
wrong or what you do doesn't work the way you'd hoped. You are surrounded by
challenge, and it will help to acknowledge this and accept that it will have
to be faced and dealt with in a new way. The open door that can lead you to
that new way involves seeing a higher Truth in your situation (especially
your own behaviour and feelings), which means self-honesty without beating
yourself up with that Truth.
Dec.01-Jan.15 Grand Cross in Fixed Signs (Mars
Retrograde OPP Jupiter, Saturn OPP Neptune)
("What's a Grand Cross?")
This is a powerful configuration that dominates
the astrological landscape throughout December and half-way into January.
Composed of entirely stressful and dynamic energy, it spurs us to move
forward, try harder and strengthen ourselves. Mars retrograde is opposite
Jupiter, which could amplify our frustration, anger, libido, impatience and
tolerance. But it also challenges us to see things from a broader
perspective, through the lens of a higher purpose, and to fine-tune our best
judgment at times when our impulses want to just react. Saturn is opposite
Neptune, although this doesn't become exact until August 2006, so this is a
preview of a long-term process over the next 2 years. This process involves
an existential challenge to find a balance between the spiritual and
material worlds, and between what we long and hope for versus the reality of
WHAT IS. The combined effect is both stressful and stimulating; a struggle
and a dynamic growth opportunity. And being in Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo,
Scorpio, Aquarius), we will get the best results by "staying in the
struggle" and allowing it to transform and reshape us.
Dec.03 Sun trine Saturn (in Sagittarius/Leo)
This is a great time to apply yourself to serious
work. You may feel especially self-sufficient and independent, with a strong
and clear sense of self and purpose. There is support for your ambitions as
long as you stay grounded and practical in how you approach them, which
should come easily right now. Your ability to cooperate and feel comfortable
with authority figures is likely to be high, along with your capacity to
embrace your own authority and make solid decisions. This is a time when you
are more likely to feel grounded and deal with problems in a practical,
decisive way. Your energy may be more serious than "party animal," but even
if you are in "party mode" it will be easier to realistically know your
limits and not overdo it. If you've been waiting for the right time to move
forward with or manifest a project or plan that you've been putting together
(or wanting to), this could be the time when that happens. The final launch
or manifestation may or may not happen now, but you will probably be able to
at least move forward in some important steps.
Dec.03 Mercury stationary Direct (in Scorpio)
 Yay!!!
For up to a week before and after today, you may
experience mental intensity, confusion, and miscommunications or changes in
your outlook, as Mercury takes the slow turn to resume his direction motion.
Mercury has been retrograde since November 14, allowing you to rethink and
rehash about things that required some fine-tuning or revision. Now, for the
next couple of weeks, while Mercury is still in the Shadow, it will be time
to put these revisions into practice, carefully and gradually. In the
meantime, take it slow, one step at a time, and untangle yourself one strand
at a time.
Dec.04 Mercury sextile Venus (in
Scorpio/Capricorn)
There is a potential to benefit from social
connections, diplomatic communication and receptive awareness during this
transit, although a certain amount of effort is needed to make this happen.
It can be a good time for negotiating contracts and other agreements,
especially if you consciously focus your intent on achieving balance with
your counterpart, partner or opponent that results in a win-win situation
for all concerned. There is also potential to appreciate and express beauty,
pleasure and sensuality. If there's someone in your life that you want to
get closer to, try speaking gently and listening receptively, which can be
the key that opens the door to harmonious interaction. Creative ideas can
also find expression now if you apply your conscious awareness to bring them
into focus.
Dec.04 Mars Retrograde opposite Jupiter (in
Taurus/Scorpio)
Both inspired action and brash overconfidence
characterise this transit. For up to a week before and after this date, you
may find that your energy, anger, libido and ability to take action are
amplifiedso much so, that you may be pushing yourself beyond what is
realistic or unable to deal with reasonable boundaries to prevent them from
getting out of control. What is needed is to find that fine line of balance
between ego-based desire and spiritual inspiration; between will power and
focused faith; and between righteous anger and arrogant pride. Strive to
bring both your ego's desires and your spiritual aspirations into what you
do, for each has its own validity and won't operate well without the other.
This is the second of three passes of this transit during the Mars
retrograde cycle. The first pass was June 25 (in Aries/Libra) and the last
pass will be January 15 (both in Taurus/Scorpio).
Dec.05 Chiron enters Aquarius (until April 2010)
Chiron, the Wounded Healer, brings his healing
process to our experience of groups, community, friends and how we establish
and maintain our individuality within these areas. During the next 5 years,
you will have the opportunity to find a new balance between the urge to
reflexively rebel against the establishment and the need to be clear on what
you really stand for and what causes are truly meaningful to you. Start by
taking stock of the ideals, visions, hopes and dreams that arent working
for you anymore versus the ones that are. Its time to shed the deadwood and
liberate whats left. This can bring you into a new awareness of what it is
to be and feel alienated. You can bring healing to that condition that
already exists in your life, as well as develop an appreciation and
compassion for others who have been disenfranchised from the mainstream. It
may also be a time when you will need to go your own way, separate from the
mainstream, in order to preserve and heal your sense of individuality and
autonomy. This is the second pass into Aquarius that Chiron has made this
year. Chiron was in Aquarius from February 21 to July 31, when it
retrograded back into Capricorn until today.
Dec.07 Sun sextile Neptune (in
Sagittarius/Aquarius)
Faith in the bountiful blessings of the Universe
is within reach under this transit...but then, so is the fantasy that you
will be magically granted anything you wish for. Although this is mostly a
very positive energy, you could become so immersed in your longing for the
ideal that you have trouble dealing with the less-than-ideal realities that
still must be dealt with. Gaining the benefit from this transit will still
require some effort. Hope, optimism and imagination are in the air, which
could bring some relief from any depression or discouragement you might be
feeling. Your creativity and imagination can be very inspired under this
transit. Your sense of self could also get an infusion of uplifting vision,
and you may experience a sense of mission, feeling that you are truly a
Child of the Universe. There is potential now to lift you out of the
ordinary and into the sublimespiritually, creatively, romantically or
compassionatelyalthough this will require your cooperation to take
advantage of it. Enjoy it while it lasts, but before you make changes based
on what might feel like a permanent condition, remember that this is mostly
a temporary influence and you will still have to live within the bounds of
the physical world after it passes. Don't make overly optimistic promises
now, that you will have to fulfil later when the euphoria wears off.
Dec.08-Jan.08 Arrowhead (Mars SQR Saturn, SQQ
Pluto)
We had a bit of a preview of this powerful
configuration earlier this year in mid-August (see
Aug.08-12 Arrowhead),
involving Venus, Mars and Pluto. This time we have Mars, Saturn and Pluto,
and the common thread is Mars-Pluto. This current configuration is very much
about the need to strengthen, develop and hone the ways that we work with
power and authority. In particular, we are challenged to examine how we
handle anger, frustration and reaction when we're under pressure or faced
with a challenge. Ambition, drive, control and empowerment are likely to be
central parts of the situations in your life during this time. You might
feel held back, blocked or forced to conform to rules and circumstances that
seem to bring as many problems as they solve. But the purpose of this energy
is ultimately to forge a stronger container of discipline, determination and
commitment that can support our long-term growth. The trick is to find a
workable balance between power, authority and assertiveness that doesn't
need someone to lose in order for someone to win.
Dec.09 Mars stationary Direct at 08TA14 (in
Taurus; direct until Nov. 2007) Yay!!!
For about a week before and after this date, your
energy can feel intense, erratic, volatile or liberated. After being
retrograde for about two months, the energy that has been collecting during
that time now begins a gradual release. It is possible you may reach a point
of decision about issues that you have been struggling with, in the past 2-4
months. Low energy will return either suddenly and erratically, or
gradually. If you have been wrestling with issues about assertiveness,
aggression or forcefulness, the station can bring a turning point that
brings resolution to your frustrations. Depending on how constructively and
therapeutically you have been working with these issues, this resolution
could be a positive time of self-empowerment, or it could produce an
explosion of controlling and forcing others to bend to your will. Over the
coming two months (while Mars is still in the Shadow), you will apply and
integrate the energy and learning that has been gathered and is now being
released.
Dec.10 Mercury sextile Venus (in
Scorpio/Capricorn)
Creative ideas can
also find expression now if you apply your conscious awareness to bring them
into focus.
[includes/adarchives_ldmid.htm]
Dec.12 Mercury enters
Sagittarius (until Jan.03.2006)
Communication, ideas, thoughts and perceptual
"spark" become expanded in Sagittarius. Your mental focus tends toward a
philosophical and spiritual outlook that seeks the highest truth in the
broadest context. However, it's not always easy for the conscious mind to
assimilate and digest such a vast territory of knowledge, or to find the
higher meaning in mountains of raw information. You might feel a bit
overwhelmed by trying to take in such a panoramic view of your world, but
the gifts from doing so are abundant and inspiring! To get the most out of
this transit, try learning something new that expands your horizon. Or pick
a situation in your life and imagine that you're looking at it from a
mountaintopwhat do you see from way up there that you can't see when you're
closer to the ground? Just remember that whatever visions and insights you
get from doing this, these are SOME of the truths to be found, but not
necessarily the only truth. Leave room in your new understanding to remember
that every mountaintop shows a slightly different view and that this doesn't
make one mountain right and the others wrong.
Dec.13 Mercury sextile
Chiron (in Sagittarius/Aquarius)
Your mental focus and communication could get an
injection of healing energy under this transit, as long as you are prepared
to put some effort into getting it. Your spirits can become uplifted now,
from seeing a light at the end of the tunnel or from finding a light that
guides you along the path in front of you. It will not, however, make the
tunnel or the path go away; you'll still have to walk the walk. But your
mental perspective can become more accepting of inconsistencies and
frustrations under this transit, which can alleviate a lot of stress and
make the journey a bit smoother. Mental struggles and critical "self-talk"
may find some reconciliation and acceptance that brings peace of mind. You
have an increased ability to find the right words and understanding to help
others with their problems, by providing insightful feedback. To get the
most out of this transit, aim to find a mental outlook and communication
style that can tolerate contradiction without having to eradicate one in
order to justify the other.
Dec.15 Venus enters
Aquarius (until Jan.01.2006)
Relationships, material abundance and values take
a step back to gain perspective, detachment and room to breathe in freedom.
You may find that you want to use your finances and resources to benefit
those who are disadvantaged or to support the greater good of society in
some way. It can be a good time to experiment or try new things, to network
with groups of people, and to take an objective view about intimacy and
interaction. Relationships can take on an idealistic edge, seeking a state
of equality and rebelling against imbalances that give one person advantage
over the other. Having a strong element of friendship in your intimate
relationships may become very important during this time, and friendships
themselves could take a central place in your life. Detachment without
disconnection is the ideal here. You may not be in a position to foresee
future possibilities and translate desires into wishes and new hope.
There's intense and powerful energy flying around
from all directions under this Full Moon! The Moon is in inquisitive,
communicative Gemini, opposite the Sun conjunct Pluto in Sagittarius. That
means it's a very
deep, even dark energy, and one priority of this lunation is that the truth must
out! Whatever you're involved in, this is a time to be honest with yourself
and with others, not only for the sake of moral integrity but also because
what you don't acknowledge can be the very thing you trip over because you
don't see it.
The Grand Cross aspect configuration (see Dec.01 to Jan.15) is still going strong, as is the
Arrowhead configuration (see Dec.08 to Jan.08). The Sun-Moon opposition (which is what a
Full Moon is) ties into both configurations in a way that amplifies and
focuses all that dynamic energy, a bit like a magnifying glass focuses and
intensifies sunlight to create heat or even start a fire! This combination
of energies can be a very powerful motivator
that can propel you into pursuing your goals, possibilities and ideas.
However, it could also be a time when you might
feel kind of swamped and overwhelmed, if you're not able to harness all that
energy constructively and productively. In that case, it is best to take
things one small step at a time, simplify your life as much as possible, and
prioritize according to what is really important. Dont sweat the small
stuff. All this energy can potentially be channelled creatively into breaking free of
old outworn habits, beliefs, feelings and reactions, as well as celebrating
and affirming
your unique value as an individual and a Child of the Universe. But to do
this, you will probably have to let go of any need to control the way it all
manifests.
[includes/adgeneral_me.htm]
If you're feeling stressed or pressured, you
might wonder how that is supposed to translate into breaking free from the
very thing you feel stressed by. Try taking a leap of faith. You may find
there's a little light glowing inside that, although perhaps not yet bright,
feeds off an invisible Source that sustains it. That light is the Spirit of
who you are (in whatever way that idea is meaningful to you).
We also have the Venus-Chiron conjunction (see Dec.18 and Dec.25) which
introduces a process of healing into relationships, material worth and
well-being. This is a rather complex process that will unfold throughout
Venus retrograde (see Dec.24), but many of its themes will begin to emerge
in your life now at the Full Moon. Don't be surprised if the healing process
begins with an awareness of the areas where you feel wounded and require
healing. Things may seem to get worse before they get better, and this is
the hand of the Healer at work. Trust the process.
Dec.15 Sun conjunct Pluto (in Sagittarius)
Your sense of purpose is potentially very strong
right now, as you are able to tap into a deeper level of energy and
determination. Your personality is likely to be more forceful now, which can
be great if you need to make a strong impression but perhaps not so great in
situations requiring delicacy, subtlety or diplomacy. You have increased
ability to see below the surface of things, although it may not be as easy
to articulate it in a way that is received comfortably by others. What you
pick up from others can also become mixed up with your own personal issues,
making it hard to tell where one stops and the other begins. Paranoia and
suspicion can be strong. It is possible to unearth secrets or get at the
core of unconscious patterns (yours and others'), but it is important to be
prudent in how you respond to this awareness. You have the ability to wound
as well as heal right now, so probe into the depths (yours and others') as
you would into an egg shell that you don't want to breakgently, mindfully
and respectfully.
Dec.17 Jupiter square Saturn (in Scorpio/Leo)
This is the first of three passes of this transit
(the other two being Jun.22 and Oct.25 of 2006). Jupiter and Saturn have a
very long combined cycle20 years! This is the waxing square, and this
current cycle began with the conjunction in Taurus back in 2000. Therefore,
this is a time when you are challenged to make a deeper commitment to
long-term projects, goals and growth that began in 2000. It is a time to
evaluate your development since then.
"What development?" you might ask. Five years is
a long time to think back and compare to present day. At that time you might
have experienced the end of certain hopes and dreams, although this would
have cleared the way for new ones, which are only now starting to take
shape. In 2000 you might also have found your spiritual beliefs and
practices changing, perhaps to make them more applicable to your physical
circumstances, or maybe to find a more spiritual, uplifting, inspiring or
optimistic understanding of the world of matter and consequence.
Think back to 2000 and the far-reaching changes
that were taking place in your life then. What has happened as a result of
those changes? Where are you now if the process that has unfolded since
then? Where would you like to be in another five years of this journey? Are
there aspects of this situation that need to be adjusted or changed? Do you
need to recommit to the possibilities that were born five years ago? What
needs to be done now in order to get back on track or to ensure that you
stay on track? This is a major turning point in that process, and the turn
will take almost a year to complete. This is a good time to contemplate what
you would like out of this long-term process.
Dec.18 Mercury square Uranus (in
Sagittarius/Pisces)
Dec.18 Venus Direct conjunct Chiron (in
Aquarius; Venus fast)
Unresolved problems and old wounds in
relationships and finances may be in the foreground now, with potential for
a new beginning and healing. However, in order to heal something, it is
first necessary to become more aware of what is out of balance, which can
make a situation seem to get worse before it gets better. You have the
ability to wound those close to you, as well as to bring healing, as you
explore what is and isn't working in your relationships. It is also a time
when your approach to finances and resources may require that you face some
hard realities that may not be easily or quickly resolved, but dealing with
any problems will give you the chance to achieve a new balance. This is
especially true when it comes to the ways that you see your physical
resources as a reflection of your self-worth, and the relationships in your
life as a reflection of your lovability. These issues may become aggravated
under this transit, but ultimately this is meant to increase your awareness
of these issues so that you can start to heal them in new ways. This is the
first of three passes of this transit during the Venus retrograde cycle,
indicating that your experiences under this transit will lead you into a
deeper exploration of these issues. The other two passes are December 25,
2005, and March 14, 2006.
Dec.21 Mercury Trine Saturn (in
Sagittarius/Leo)
It can be easier to take a logical, practical
approach to problem-solving and pursuit of your goals now. Your mental
outlook is likely to be calm and grounded. This is a good time to make plans
and work out the logistics of how you're going to get from "here" to "there"
in pursuing your goals. You may find it's time to bring closure to finished
goals by distilling and systemizing what you've learned in the process of
pursuing those past goals. Or, you might find you are able to draw on past
achievements to assist and support your current goals and plans. It is a
good transit to bring structure to your thoughts and communication. You may
find it's a little easier to accept authorityyours or someone else'sand
that you are able to speak authoritatively about things about which you have
knowledge or experience.
Dec.21, 1:34 PM EST SOLSTICE Sun enters Capricorn (until
Jan.20.2006)
Happy Solar Return to all Capricorns! And Happy
Solstice and Happy Yule to all of us! When the Sun enters Capricorn each
year, it marks the Winter Solstice in the northern hemisphere (longest
night) and the Summer Solstice in the southern hemisphere (longest day).
Yule is the traditional celebration of the December solstice in
European-derived cultures, welcoming the start of the increasing light.
While the Sun is in Capricorn, we have the opportunity to explore our
connection to the earth (Capricorn being an Earth sign) in a visceral way.
Whether you are bundling up to survive a cold climate, or unwinding after
the summer heat, or getting down to business as the landscape blooms in
downunder summer beauty, there is something very manifest about the
experience of Capricorn. This energy calls on us to get real in whatever we
are doing; to bring structure, responsibility and discipline to our
activities. It is a time to work on our containment, in the sense of
defining the boundaries within which we want our growth to flourish down the
road. Sometimes that means cutting back in certain areas to focus your
energy and make room for new growth.
For up to a week before and after this date, you
may experience more intense energy in the areas of relationships, finances,
beauty, self-worth and harmony. Similar to Mercury retrograde, Venus
retrograde is a time when we go back over the same ground we just came
through in order to refine, polish and adjust the affected areas in our
lives.
[includes/adarchive_omakase_160x600.htm]
Venus retrograde can be a time when latent
problems in relationships become outright conflicts. Or, previous ongoing
conflicts may take a rest and go underground for a while, as everyone
regroups and reassesses what is important to them. If you have been keeping
the peace at any price, this can be a time when that peace suddenly falls
apart and you are faced with having to deal with old unresolved problems.
Finances also can shift direction. Income and
resources might become somewhat scarce, forcing you to let go of or rethink
your material focus. Or, you might find your material resources booming
...possibly along with your spending. Issues about personal appearance,
fashion, beauty and charm may also become conspicuous, either by their
absence or their sudden importance. In general, it is a time to examine your
value system and decide whether you still prioritize and cherish the same
things in the same way, as well as whether you are truly living according to
your values.
With Venus retrograde initially in Aquarius,
your relationships with friends, associates and groups may become a focus.
You may also need to increase or decrease the amount of detachment or
distance you have with those close to you. It may be a good time to
experiment with new ways of relating to others or prioritizing your material
wealth.
With Venus retrograde later in Capricorn,
you may find it necessary to reassess your commitment to Significant Others
and to your chosen goals. You may have to address the need to assume
responsibility and authority, or you might need to examine how you relate to
those qualities in others. Financial investment might become a focus,
requiring research and caution before committing yourself to anything
long-term. Consulting an expert about this beforehand would probably be
wise.
Dec.25 Mercury sextile Neptune (in
Sagittarius/Aquarius)
Your mind is very open to imagination, dreams and
compassion under this transit, with a little applied effort and focus. This
can be a very creative time, when ideas flow like a magical river. It can
also be easy to get caught up in yearning and fantasizing about your hidden
wishes, although it is possible to channel this into creative expression.
(e.g., writing poetry, dancing, wistful music, singing in the shower,
whatever!) The possible disadvantage is that you might want so much to reach
a state of inspired intuition, magical outlook and effortless communication,
that you are willing to be deceived rather than fall short of what you wish
for. Listening sympathetically to others' problems may come easily now, and
you are more likely to get a compassionate response from others about your
own problems. However, it may also be difficult to draw clear and firm
boundaries with others, since you are more susceptible to the emotional
gravity of others. It is ultimately a time for optimism, hope, creativity
and intuition, although it's wise to keep at least one foot on the ground.
Dec.25 Venus Retrograde conjunct Chiron (in
Aquarius; Chiron fast)
This is the
second of three passes of this transit during the Venus retrograde cycle,
the first being only a week ago on December 18, and the final pass being
March 14, 2006. This second pass will likely bring a focus to the ways that
the affected issues need to be rebalanced, healed and addressed.
Dec.27 Mars Direct square Saturn (in
Taurus/Leo)
For up to a week before and after today, you have
a chance to discover and work with your blind spots and the hidden motives
that trip you up. It may feel like you are spinning your wheels or
"shadow-boxing" and not even sure why. You may be fighting a hidden agenda
or unconscious motives (yours or someone else's). You might also be trying
to apply a concrete solution to an ambiguous situation, and then wondering
why it isn't working very well. Responding to conflicts in a
passive-aggressive or manipulative way can be tempting under this transit,
since you may not know how to take direct and effective action. Resentment
might become a defiant way to express toothless anger. Part of the problem
may be that you are fighting against your own idealism, and resisting the
acceptance that the other person or situation can't be the way you want them
to be. Feelings of disappointment or helplessness may trigger much deeper
feelings from your unconscious, making it difficult for you to know how to
respond effectively in the here-and-now. It will probably help to work on
owning your feelings, needs, longings and (hidden) agendas. Being honest
with yourself about what's really going on inside you will go a long way
toward increasing your empowerment. This is the last of three passes of this
transit during the Mars retrograde cycle. The first two passes were on July
31 and November 18.
Dec.29 Sun sextile Uranus (in Capricorn/Pisces)
You are more open than usual to spontaneity,
surprises and "flying by the seat of your pants!" Your sense of humour and
fun are more finely tuned during this transit, as is your ability to break
out of old outworn habits. It's a great time to try new things and
experiment with something that's out of character for you. In fact, it may
be surprising how easy it is to break out of your usual routine...so much so
that it's good to be careful not to be too reckless under this transit. Just
have fun pushing the envelope! You may also find you want things to be
spontaneous and new and out-of-the-ordinary so much that it's hard not to
feel restless and dissatisfied with ordinary life right now. But remember
that trying to plan spontaneity defeats the purpose of the exercise. And if
you are hungering for something new but can't seem to find something
satisfying, try digging a little deeper to see what is driving that hunger
from inside you. You could find surprising answers.

for January 2006.
